Residents from Cassava Piece in the Constant Spring area of St. Andrew protested Thursday morning against the cancellation of the annual show mounted in the areas by dance hall artiste, Mavado.

Mavado, whose given name is David Brooks, was slated to hold his annual birthday bash this Saturday at the Temple Hall Estate

, but the police cancelled the permits issued for the show, a week before event.

Law enforcement

officials say the heavily promoted stage show was cancelled as it posed a serious security risk as there has been problems in the Temple Hall area.

The Constant Spring Police say a letter was sent to the artiste, advising him of the reasons they have pulled the plug on the show.

But ardent placard bearing Mavado fans and residents of Cassava Piece mounted a peaceful demonstration in their community to show their displeasure with the police’s decision.

They want the cops to reconsider their edict cancelling the stage show which was expected to be one of the biggest events of the Christmas season.

Police from the station have been sent to the scene to ensure order.

The last time Mavado’s birthday bash was staged at the Temple Hall Estate in 2007, police conducted a massive raid that left patrons stranded for hours.
