Don Corleon, acclaimed Jamaican producer/co-producer for such A-list recording artists as Sean Paul, Rihanna and Vybz Kartel, has renewed his contract with BFM Digital to continue digital distribution and marketing services for his label, Don Corleon Records (DCR).

Don Corleon Records Hits #1 in Japan

Don Corleon, acclaimed Jamaican producer/co-producer for such A-list recording artists as Sean Paul, Rihanna and Vybz Kartel, has renewed his contract with BFM Digital to continue digital distribution and marketing services for his label, Don Corleon Records (DCR). BFM Digital is a leading digital music aggregator and distributor of independent music.

DCR’s relationship with BFM began in 2009 with the intent to strengthen their presence on music services outside of their already established markets of Jamaica and the U.S. By utilizing BFM’s extensive network of distribution channels throughout the World, Don Corleon Records has been able to reach consumers in new markets and open up new revenue opportunities.

Recent successes include the new digital album “Major & Minor Riddim” which features the single “Let’s Do It Again” by J. Boog. Released through BFM, the song currently sits at #1 on the iTunes Reggae charts in Japan and New Zealand, and has sat steadily on the best-selling reggae songs in the iTunes US charts. Over the last year, DCR has been releasing a series of “Don Corleon Presents…” riddim albums including “Gala Riddim” and “Feelings Riddim,” both of which will be featured in AmazonMP3’s upcoming “Fill Your Player” holiday promotion.

The renewal of DCR’s agreement with BFM includes services from BFM’s growing digital marketing division. “BFM is pleased to continue our partnership with Don Corleon Records. As we expand our slate of services, we look forward to an even more successful collaboration with DCR and the release of many new digital albums in the coming years,” says Steven Weber, President of BFM Digital.

Jamaica Observer - UNITED STATES Magistrate Anthony Porcelli today approved a security company that Jamaican Reggae star Buju Banton has contracted to provide security while he is on bail, despite the objections of the prosecution.

Judge approves Buju’s security detail

UNITED STATES Magistrate Anthony Porcelli today approved a security company that Jamaican Reggae star Buju Banton has contracted to provide security while he is on bail, despite the objections of the prosecution.

Porcelli also approved a Miami property that was put up as collateral for Banton’s bond.

Attorney Marc Seitles, who handled the hearing on Banton’s behalf, was delighted at the outcome.

“We achieved a bond today and we are happy that Judge Porcelli reaffirmed that Buju is entitled to be released on bond,” Seitles told the Observer.

However the artiste’s bid for freedom has hit yet another snag as prosecutor James Preston signaled his intention to appeal the ruling. The prosecution has five days within which to file its appeal.

Banton’s lead attorney David Markus was livid at the repeated attempts by Preston to keep his client behind bars, describing the prosecutor’s attitude as “disheartening”.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, will be required to wear a tracking device and pay for the security detail which will be watching him 24 hours a day pending the outcome of his retrial in December.

He will also be placed under house arrest and can only leave his Tamarac, South Florida home to purchase medication, see his attorney or attend court.

If Banton successfully beats back the appeal, he will have to seek another bond in the immigration court as his entertainment visa was revoked upon his arrest last December.

Banton is facing a charge of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute five or more kilogrammes of cocaine. His two co-defendants Ian Thomas and James Mack have both pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in November.

Both were collared by Drug Enforcement Agents after attempting to buy drugs from undercover agents in a police controlled warehouse in Sarasota, Florida.

Banton has maintained his innocence and has rejected a plea bargain deal, offered to him by prosecutors. He claims he was entrapped by government informant Alexander Johnson.

The artiste’s trial in September ended with a hung jury.

REGGAE MOURNS THE LOSS OF A LEGEND

The reggae community mourns the loss of one of its legends, Gregory Isaacs. Best known for his lovers’ rock anthems, the versatile and velvet-voiced crooner was recognized by the international masses for his talent and contribution to music for decades, and remains an icon for the genre.
Isaacs was born on July 15, 1951 in Kingston, Jamaica andgained appeal and acclaim in the 1970s and 1980s for hits such as “Night Nurse” and “Rumors.” Nicknamed the ‘Cool Ruler’ by his fans, Isaacs pioneered his own sound by fusing traditional reggae with dancehall, thereby reinventing the genre and expanding its global fan base into what it is today.
“Gregory Isaacs leaves behind an iconic history and catalog that is unparalleled,” reveals VP Records CEO, Christopher Chin. “He devoted his entire life to music and his memory will forever live on with us – through his music and the legacy he leaves behind.”
Isaacs fought a year-long battle with lung cancer before passing away on October 25, 2010 at his home in London, at the age of 59. Condolences and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during this trying time.
