mavado 300x198 Mavados bail extendedDANCEHALL act Mavado is scheduled to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on November 21 on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm stemming from a recent altercation at a popular nightclub in New Kingston where he reportedly assaulted an off-duty police officer.

A member of the entertainer’s entourage, Conroy Edwards, was shot in his abdomen during the June 13 incident, and succumbed to his injuries three days later in hospital.

The entertainer, who was born David Brooks, was summoned by the police and arrested and charged when he turned himself in but was later released on $30,000 station bail.

However, yesterday when the artiste appeared in court clad in black, his lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson, told the court that his plea was not guilty.

Tavares-Finson then told the court that the complainant was being investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and as a result, he was requesting time for the investigation to be completed before proceeding to trial with the case.

Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey then scheduled the matter for mention in November and extended Mavado’s bail.

According to the complainant, on June 13, at about 4:00 am, he was a patron at the Quad night club when he saw a group of about 20 men, who were a part of the artiste’s entourage, trying to enter the club.

The men were reportedly behaving boisterously and were pushing to get inside the club, he said.

The off-duty cop said he was standing inside the lobby when Mavado stepped on his foot when he was passing by and he called out to the entertainer and told him that he had stepped on his foot and he should take it easy.

He added that Mavado then used his right hand to hit him on the left side of his face and threatened to kill him.

The complainant further said he attempted to defend himself but was attacked by members of the artiste’s entourage who hit him all over his body.

He said he then identified himself as a policemen but they continued to assault him and that one of the men held onto his gun which was hidden inside his waist.

The cop explained that he then held onto the man’s hand and was trying to retrieve his gun when he heard a loud explosion. He said he later found out that a member of Mavado’s crew was hit and that he was among those who had attacked him.

The complainant said that he sustained bruises to his left side and hands, which were also swollen along with his face.
