Aidonia signs management deal with Corey Todd

Well renowned Dancehall deejay & Jag One Productions (J.O.P) leader, Sheldon “Aidonia” Lawrence has officially inked a management deal with Vybz Kartel’s former business partner, Corey Todd. Aidonia becomes the latest artiste to join forces with the successful American businessman. Former Vybz Kartel protégé, JahVinci as well as the Portmore Empire’s former producer, Ainsley “Notnice” Morris & the self-professed “King Of The Dancehall,” Beenie Man have also linked with Todd within the last two months. Todd confirmed the deal during an interview on Wednesday.

According to reports, part of Aidonia’s deal with Todd includes the “Jackhammer” singer doing marketing related work as well as endorsements for a new product line that Todd will soon be unveiling. Todd did not reveal details on what exactly that product line will be about but says in the meantime that Aidonia will be endorsing his latest project, “Yaad Swag Rum.” Furthermore, Todd is insisting that Aidonia will be an integral part of the new network that he’s building with the likes of JahVinci & Beenie Man as he aims to promote prosperity & unity within Dancehall music, without any bias.

Aidonia released a statement expressing his excitement at the opportunity of working with Corey Todd and believes that this move will boost his career moving forward. The move was sealed after weeks of talks according to the J.O.P deejay. Meanwhile, Aidonia has released new material making waves on Jamaican radio including the Dre Day produced, “Summer Sun,” & “Bad Pickney” on Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor’s Bad Acid Riddim.

Corey Todd is renowned for his long time business partnership with Vybz Kartel as they promoted products such as Daggering Condoms and, most notably the Street Vybz Rum brand. They later created the weekly party series, “Street Vybz Thursdays” the nightclub formerly known as “The Building.” However, Todd severed ties from Kartel & the Portmore Empire in May following alleged death threats that “Di Teacha” made against his life.

Since severing ties with Kartel, Todd’s teamed with Beenie Man to promote their new line of rum products, “Yaad Swag Rum.” Todd is now also the spokesperson for the remodeled “Club Riddim,” the nightclub previously known as “The Building,” & “Asylum Nightclub.” Club Riddim reopened on July 1st & “Yaad Swag Thursdays” officially launched 6 days later.

Mavado, Bounty Killer not at odds

Rumors have swirled in the last week that Alliance founder, Bounty Killer & his protégé & leaded of the Gully Side, Mavado have been at odds within the camp; threatening to damage the “Gulliance” unit. The rumors were fueled by allegations that Mavado’s being blamed by Killer’s Alliance crew for the shooting incident outside Bounty’ birthday party last month that left one of Mavado’s entourage members dead.

However, sources close to both camps are vehemently denying these claims. Mavado’s manager, Julian Jones-Griffiths rubbished the rumors; suggesting the Gully side & Alliance are still family & that Mavado has no issues with the Alliance.

Khago sets record straight about issues with I-Octane

Khago tells how he really feels about I-Octane

Jamaican Dancehall/Reggae artiste, Khago has publicly launched a stinging verbal attack on fellow cultural artiste, I-Octane. The “Blood A Boil” singer is suggesting that the I-Octane is using his popularity & influence to try & stunt Khago’s growth in the music industry & has told lies about the nature of their relationship.

In a press release, Khago lashed out at the “Nuh Ramp Wid Wi” singer; claiming I-Octane has been damaging his earning potential by refusing to be on the same stage shows that the “Blood A Boil” singer was appearing on & also accuses I-Octane of talking about him negatively to music producers to prevent him working with them. Khago intimated that, “I-Octane needs to stop telling people say me and him good, mi and him no good. Him need fi stop tell people say me and him friend. Mi put in nuff work wid him, from him first song, mi have ‘Caan Cool ‘at Number 3 on the chart, mi ask him fi call mi out so people can know me cause ah mi and him used to par, mi sing background vocals fi him, mi used to cook at Octane yard, and when him find out say mi talented like him, him no waan nobody know me, him just want me to be a background singer.”

Furthermore, Khago implied that I-Octane was stealing some of his trends; particularly with how he styled his dreadlocks & also dissed him subliminally in previous songs. Said Khago “Mi have three yute, so mi cyah mek my ting waste, mi work fi not even a dolla fi him and when a my time fi get my go, him stop deal wid me. Three years him no talk to me after mi sing the last background vocals for him at Beenie Sizzle just because mi ask him fi help me. Yuh can ask producer Krush bout it, and then three years after him stop tek mi phone call then, mi go find ‘Nah Sell Out’, him run back say him waan do combination and management say mi nuffi do it. When mi and him a roll, mi used to teach people how fi do sister locks, him do song say “no man caan ramp wid mi like how dem play wid dem catty, no man caan put dem hand inna mi natty” because him know mi used to teach people how fi do sister locks and mi no ansa him. Him see mi over Portmore and say him like the low profile rims pon mi car. Him invite me over him yard and the following week, somebody send me a link pon mi Facebook page say “Octane do Khago diss” and when mi click it, ah the song: “Mi no go ah mi bed fi dream bout bwoy, dem sell out fi low profile rims. So him ah diss me under psyches all this time.”

Khago believes that I-Octane has been disrespecting his family & suggested that he also lied about the nature of his relationship with fellow Reggae artist, Teflon; whose character, Khago claims I-Octane was also trying to defame. “Him waan mi tell lie say Teflon have knife ah Fully Loaded fi stab him up, and mi refuse fi do it. The ting deeper than music, it more than just music, mi no sing no song fi be no troublemaker. Dem used the one song, Blood a Boil fi tarnish mi ting but dem neva know the reason mi sing the song. Him trouble Teflon , and then run come pon TV and say me and Teflon a friend, It reach the point say me and Octane ah Cane and Abel, and him need fi stop tell people say ah him gimme mi name, ah Jimmy Hinds give me my name,” Khago said. Furthermore, he pointed out, “Him go pon Buzz on IRIE FM, and tell people say me waan him and mi de pon a Mavado and Kartel ting, wah dat yuh a try do to mi yute? How yu fi talk dem tings de? Why yu nuh talk how yu a try keep mi down? Ah fear him fear mi so? Octane is a glory taker, and the glory belongs to the Most High. Mi nah hide it no more.”

Meanwhile, Khago insisted that he enjoyed performing for the thousands of patrons on Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest 2011. He claimed that he didn’t need to “gas up no crowd fi get forward.”

Recently Khago released a new single on The Unkwown People Records produced, African Robot Riddim entitled, “Weh Dem a Seh,” that appears to take lyrical jabs at I-Octane.

Tiana calls for Jamaican music industry to show more love to female artistes

"Tiana Dancehall"

Tiana asks the Dancehall industry to show females more respect

Up-and-coming female singjay, Tiana has a bone to pick with the Jamaican music industry for not giving females within the Dancehall & Reggae genres their due recognition. The “Princess of Dancehall,”spoke in-depth via press release; claiming that she’s tired of the lack of respect shown to female artistes & that the Jamaican music industry is biased against them.

“The music industry needs to give more support to the female artistes in Jamaica. “When you turn on the radio, it’s the same set of bulls; same as when you go to the Dancehall sessions, this industry is very bias towards females,” Tiana intimated. She then explained, “Check it, most of the Riddims have a bag a man pon it and even when a female artiste manages to squeeze herself on the Riddim them play all the man dem songs and bench the female song majority of the time.”

Tiana, who’s known for hits such as “Gyal Mi Love Yuh” featuring Konshens on the Buss Out Riddim & “Dat Mi Want,” on the Flirtation Riddim believes that female artistes are better than they’re given credit for, even better than some of their male counterparts. “Mi flow sicka than nuff of the male artistes and is not brag mi a brag I am just simply telling the truth because most of the female artistes are way better,” Tiana stated whilst adding, “Please show us some more love because it’s not easy being a female artiste in this male dominated industry. Mi songs dem might nah shat a yaad but them a get nuff love abroad.”

Tiana cites another of her hit singles, “No Man Can’t Talk Bad Bout Mi” (Produced by Konshens and D&H) as an example of said sentiment. “I sang a song titled “No Man Can’t Talk Bad Bout Mi,” which is a big song in several other countries but in Jamaica dem a try fi hold down the song and yet it still manages to create a buzz which could have been bigger only if that song had gotten the deserving support. But nuh matter what that song will always be an anthem for the ladies because even ten years from now nuh women nuh want no man fi talk bad bout them,” Tiana explained. The song was #1 on the charts in Belize, peaked at #5 on the Hype TV Dancehall Chart, Peaked at #4 on the OutAroad Top 20 Hot Singles Chart while the accompanying video was nominated as a candidate for Best Female Artiste Video of The Year at the CariVibezTV Web Awards in New York.

Meanwhile, Tiana had an encouraging message for fellow female artistes; telling them not to give up their hopes to succeed in the industry. “I’m not afraid to say it but a lot of us female artistes have been underrated but my message to them is from once you believe in yourself nuh body caan stop yuh…and mi more than believe in myself so mi affi mek it because I am not gonna allow anyone to stop me from shining,” Tiana implied. She also asked female artistes to stop engaging in lyrical warfare given how much harder it is for females, collectively to make a splash on the Dancehall/Reggae scene. “The female artistes dem need fi stop hating on each other…even though the males fight with each other just the same…but the big difference is that they help to buss each other. Look how many artistes Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel buss but can we say the same about the females in this industry? No!
Nevertheless, Tiana pleads for the local industry just to give her & other females a chance to be heard & prove their worth on a wider scale. “All I am saying is give the ladies in the music industry, some more love and support wi need it. Selectas and disc jocks add some more female artiste inna di thing even if a nuh my song mi still will feel good. Just add some more females to your playlist.”

Ziggy Marley creates his own identity with new album – “Wild and Free”

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.
World renowned Reggae superstar, Ziggy Marley has been instrumental in carrying on the Marley family legacy since he & the Melody Makers released their debut album in 1985. Though he’s done well to continue from where his legendary father, Bob left off, Ziggy’s latest project, “Wild & Free” is a part of his campaign to show Reggae fans how different he & his father are both personally despite their musical similarities.

“Wild & Free,” released in mid-June passes on lessons that Ziggy learnt from his late father & worldwide Reggae icon, Bob Marley but simultaneously reveals some of Bob’s many personal issues during the peak of his career, from his womanizing to his inability to shed yes men as he eluded to in one of his singles of the new album, “The Road Less Traveled.”

In an interview from his home in Los Angeles, California; Ziggy opened up about the issues he noticed Bob encountering during his career; particularly his tendency to keep an entourage around him. I’d rather be by myself really than have like a million posse around me,” Ziggy claimed. “Some of them you don’t even know what’s in their hearts. You don’t know who you can trust.”

Furthermore, Ziggy detailed some of the run-ins he & his father would have regarding personal beliefs & expression. Ziggy explained, “I had different ideas that I shared with him. He didn’t like them as much. He gets upset or whatever. I guess I had a strong opinion from when I was a little boy, you know.” Ziggy also spoke of his affinity for city life given he was born in the city; one day telling his father, “I don’t want to be a country boy.” The single “Get Out Of Town,” off the “Wild & Free” album that talks about Ziggy leaving Jamaica for greener pastures.  Despite owning a home in LA, Ziggy mainly resides in Miami, Florida.

Ziggy & Bob even shared separate beliefs regarding their Rastafarian faith. “I said to him, ‘You cannot have dreadlocks. You can be dread in your heart. He was very upset. Each father want their sons to be just like them really,” Ziggy intimated.

Though Ziggy shares such differing personality traits from Bob, he’s more than willing to keep his father’s brand alive; recently releasing the “Marijuana Man” comic book as well as a “relaxation drink” called Marley’s Mellow Mood.

Musically speaking, “Wild & Free” is reminiscent of Bob’s smooth vocals & is filled with messages that attack political ignorance & promote love & unity like his father regularly preached. Singles on the album that speak to said messages include, “Forward To Love,” “Welcome To The World,” & “Personal Revolution.” Currently, the album is placed third on Billboard’s Reggae Albums Chart; one place below his brother, Stephen Marley’s album, Revelation Part 1, The Root Of Life.

The King of One String: Be a part of Brushy’s new album!

Brushy sings a special tune he created for the launch of the Kickstarter fundraiser that will help him record an album in the United States.

The Official RiseUp website: http://www.riseupmovie.com/
The RiseUp Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/RiseUpMovieJamaica

About this project

In a shack perched on a hilltop over an airfield in Oracabessa, Jamaica – named Ian Fleming International Airport in honor of the James Bond creator who lived in nearby Goldeneye – Andrew Chin, a.k.a. Brushy One String, awaits his chance to fly abroad to share his music with the world.  Established in Jamaica where he is revered by both young and old, financial success and professional management have eluded Brushy. With a soulful voice and infectious guitar melodies, Brushy “soothes souls and rough hearts” as he continues to perform in Jamaica without a record of his own to sell.

Director/Producer Luciano Blotta, creator of the award-winning documentary RiseUp, has been exploring the underground music scene in Jamaica for over eight years.  His  chronicles have had audiences around the world dancing, laughing, and crying in their seats.  One of the most popular and endearing personalities discovered during Blotta’s journeys is Brushy One String, the talented and charismatic artist who has fascinated audiences since he was a child with only one guitar string.

Brushy is the son of famous Jamaican artist, the late great Freddie McKay, who unfortunately died at a young age in the 80’s leaving a music legacy but no financial stability for his young family.  Orphaned and without proper education, Brushy managed to teach himself how to read as an adult while visiting family in England.  Since that time he has gathered the courage to write and perform his original songs and even reached the final rounds of Rising Star, Jamaica’s version of the X Factor.  A festival-honored short documentary, The King of One String, was produced for the purpose of sharing Brushy’s unique story as well as rare live recordings of his bluesy, folksy and rhythmic tunes.

Due to the overwhelming amount of enthusiasm and encouragement from fans, we are now seeking to fund a full-length studio album for Brushy and to ‘Kickstart’ his career. As an independent label devoted to promoting undiscovered talent, RiseUp Entertainment LLC is incredibly excited to announce this project and we hope to see it come to fruition with the help of both ours and Brushy’s devoted fans. With your support, we can bring Brushy to the U.S. for the opportunity of a lifetime.
