Vybz Kartel jail break story a hoax, blogger responsible blames media

The ongoing media circus surrounding the murder cases of embattled Dancehall deejay, Vybz Kartel reached new heights on Wednesday after reports of his escaping prison turned out to be a hoax.

A blog post on the popular Dancehall website, www.hypelife.com reported that Kartel, along with seven other inmates made a jail break from the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. Allegedly, the men stole uniforms and a vehicle from Correctional Services Department prior to their departure.

However, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green was quick to dispel the story; suggesting that he would have been one of the first to know should a situation like that occur. Additionally, law enforcement officials at the Denham Town Police station, the closest station to the remand centre, believe that the hoax was an attempt by loyalists of Kartel to help him maintain relevance as a newsworthy figure.

Additionally, the self-dubbed “Worl’Boss” along with his road manager, Calvin “Moonie” Haye and Empire protégé’, Shawn Storm, face murder charges in relation to the killing of St. Catherin based dancer, Clive “Lizard” Williams in August.

Embattled Reggae superstar, Mark Myrie, more popularly known as Buju Banton, will call another prison home as he serves his ten-year prison sentence on drug-related charges.

The Grammy-winning singjay has been in transit several times since his sentencing this past June on three drug charges stemming from a December 2009 incident in Florida. Buju initially started his sentencing in Miami, where his trial and eventual conviction occurred. However, the popular Reggae singer was transferred from the Pinellas County Jail in Tampa, Florida to the Federal Holding Centre in Oklahoma City, where he spent a month, before finally being moved to the Limestone County Correctional Institution in Groesbeck, Texas.

However, a South Florida newspaper reports that Buju’s prison adventure will come full circle as the internationally acclaimed artiste faces a move, en-route, to the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Miami, Florida. According to Buju’s lawyer, David Markus, Buju endured several hardships during two month stay in the Texas facility; describing the environment as one of a violent and unhealthy nature that made the singjay rather uncomfortable.

Mavado claims Flexx wants to imitate him, laments Kartel situation

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall singjay, David ‘Mavado’ Brooks has returned to Jamaica after spending the better part of four months touring and recording overseas; seeking to address speculation surrounding him since his departure.

The self-professed Gully Gad became the subject of controversy within the last two weeks following reported tension between him and Gully Squad protégé, Flexx. The tension resulted from a recent interview Mavado gave via IRIE FM addressing rumors of Flexx being on tour with him while named a person of interest. The singjay intimated that Flexx was not on tour with him, leading the Gully Squad artiste to call out Mavado and accuse him of disassociating himself from the situation. Flexx appeared on the November 19 edition of CVM’s OnStage; saying that Mavado got “hype” and failed to appreciate all he did for the Gully camp’s leader.

Speaking with Winford Williams on CVM’s OnStage this past Saturday, Mavado insisted that he has no beef with Flexx; expressing surprise at the Stepping Razor deejay’s anger towards him.

“There’s nothing really wit’ me and Flexx. Mi an’ Flexx nah war, wi nah have nuh beef or nuttin’ like dat. Flexx a mi fren’ an’ mi always tell Jamaica dat. Mi nuh know how it come to dis,” he said.

“I was so surprised when mi hear him come (on TV) and sound so ignorant, like we have beef.”

Mavado revealed that he arranged the documentation that landed Flexx the documentation to travel to the United States and tour with him. Additionally, he stated that he’s always reached out to Flexx; supporting him financially given their strong friendship.

However, Mavado implied that the roots of the tension between himself and Flexx stems from the protégé desiring to mirror his mentor.

“At times a ute deh deh and him a watch your tings..yuh haffi understand seh yuh cyaah wah be like di boss,” Mavado said.

Furthermore, the established deejay stated that during his four-month stay in the U.S, he only saw Flexx two times and didn’t hear back from his protégé for weeks after giving him money to travel.

Regarding their friendship going forward, Mavado hinted that he and Flexx could go their separate ways.

“Him jus’ a do him ting and mi alrite..mi a do mi ting..a man a watch weh me have and wan’ be like me and it reach to anger. Mi wish him di best wid him career,”he said.

Meanwhile, Mavado commented on the ongoing legal drama surrounding former, long-time rival Vybz Kartel, who faces two murder charges and a drug-related charge. Mavado expressed distress regarding Kartel’s situation; claiming that he and Di Teacha were never enemies.

“Mi nuh feel good. Is not like me and him was really enemy that we wan’ get rid a one another. Is all about music,” Mavado said.

Though he admitted that their three-year rivalry helped build his status as a Dancehall superstar, Mavado insisted that Kartel’s current situation will affect his career but believes it will leave a void within Dancehall music.

“That can’t affect my career in no way. Deep within, I would feel very down fi know seh mi rival over the years is gone,” he said.

Pertaining to his music, Mavado revealed that the official video for his collaborative, chart-topping single, One By One alongside Laza Morgan will debut next week. Additionally, the Alliance-affiliated deejay intimated that a video for his single, Emergency featuring fellow We The Best Music Group artiste, Ace Hood will be shot next week while a video for his most recent track featuring hip-hop super star, Akon, entitled Survivor will debut during the holidays.

Supa Hype condemns shooting at studio, says Kartel will benefit from legal woes

Popular Dancehall selector and occasional deejay, Steven “Supa Hype” Davis, has taken an in-depth look at the highs and lows of the genre as he aims to build off his recent success.

Supa Hype, known for doing good-natured song counteractions of Dancehall deejays, is enjoying the positive reviews regarding his latest singles, She Gone on the Overproof Riddim and I’mma Need Security featuring Munga and Chi Ching Ching. Preparing to go on tour in Europe later this year, Supa Hype says he’s reveling in his accomplishments as a dual threat.

However, the owner of 007 Records was concerned after hearing that a shooting occurred at his St. Andrew studio following an altercation between Reggae superstar, Gyptian and prominent producer, DJ Frass. Supa Hype told TVJ’s Entertainment Report that he was disturbed by the incident; claiming that his perspective on music has somewhat changed as a result.

Emerging Dancehall star, Lennox Lindo aka Lyndo, has proven himself as one of the most promising up-and-comers within Bounty Killer’s Alliance staple. However, as the case with many other Alliance artistes, rumors and controversy surround Lyndo as he aims to breakthrough within the Dancehall/Reggae industry.

Rumors circulated, via a web forum, that fellow young Alliance deejay and ANG member, Iyara, has written the words to a few of Lyndo’s songs. Known for his lyrical ingenuity, Lyndo insists that he is the sole author of his songs.

“Nut’n nuh go so…I am my own writer; I write on ma pc & sometimes I jus’ buil’ ma tunes in ma head, me too intelligent fi have someone writing 4 me u zimi…jus some ppl tryin to kill what’s building, so me bun friends, a family di ting deh u c dat…Progress me a deal wid and positivity,” Lyndo explained.

According to Lyndo, with encouragement from Iyara, he stepped to the plate in defense of the Alliance.

Demarco’s “Love My Life” banned from YouTube

It appears that any positive feelings in the aftermath of a historic feat achieved by Dancehall star, Demarco, have subsided following the ban of his popular single from YouTube.

Just weeks after Demarco’s internationally acclaimed single, Love My Life, recorded over 25 million hits, via the video-sharing website, the song and accompanying video have been removedfrom a pair of popular YouTube channels. Love My Life attained just over 14.7 million views via the Vap Buss Music YouTube channel while the video for the 2010 track earned over 10.5 million views. Said statistics put Demarco in elite company; joining Shaggy, Damian Marley and Sean Paul as the only Jamaican artistes to eclipse 20 million YouTube views for a single since the video-sharing outlet’s debut in 2006.

However, both videos were removed from their respective channels with YouTube claiming that they received various complaints from site users.

I-Octane to release debut album in January

Internationally-acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae singjay, Byiome “I-Octane” Muir, plans to start the New Year with the unveiling of his highly-anticipated debut album.

Crying To The Nation,a 17 track album containing some of I-Octane’s biggest hits as well as some unreleased material, will officially drop in January 2012. Classic singles expected on the album include Lose A Friend, My Life and Study Yuh Friends amongst others. The album will follow a six track EP (Extended Play) that’s scheduled for a December 6 release, via digital outlets.

According to I-Octane, the timing is ideal for the album’s release; a project he believes will appease his growing fan base.

“I really don’t believe in releasing a few singles then dropping an album shortly after. There are several artistes who do that and several months after they are not heard of. It’s really about honing my skills and allowing my fans to really get to know the brand I-Octane,”he told the Jamaica Observer.

For me it is not about making money alone it is about contributing to the music industry in a positive way like Bob Marley. I would rather get an album that is recognized worldwide than to hurriedly collect a million dollars,”I-Octane intimated.

Additionally, I-Octane insisted that his inspiration for Crying to The Nation resulted from personal experiences he still holds dear as well as the experiences of others.

“Although some of what I sing about I have not experienced personally, it does happen to other people. People lose their loved ones to death daily so there I got the idea to pen the lyrics to Lose A friend and other singles. There are some believe that I am ‘throwing words’ but I’m not. My lyrics are those that people can relate to,” he said.

Meanwhile, I-Octane is currently promoting his latest singles, How Some Bwoy on the Intensity Riddim as well as the controversial song, Informer A Work. The latter single was axed from ZIP FM’s airwaves but has already earned tens of thousands of YouTube views and positive reaction from fans and Dancehall observer alike.

Buju Banton, promoters endorse upcoming benefit concert

On December 3, 2011, patrons are expected gather around a Tampa, Florida stage seeking to hear lyrics promoting messages of peace, love and harmony from their favorite Reggae superstars. However, while performers will offer various selections of a positive nature, they’ll collectively try to honor an embattled singjay who nurtured his music to provide upliftment for fans worldwide.

Next week Saturday, the Buju Banton benefit concert will take place at the Supa D Tropical Bar & Grill in Tampa, Florida; starting at 1pm. Buju, currently serving a ten year sentence on drug related charges, becomes the subject of an event dedicated towards providing financial support ahead of an appeal on his three convictions stemming from a December 2009 incident. The lineup card for the benefit concert includes internationally renowned Reggae artistes, Delly Ranx, Gramps Morgan, Nadine Sutherland, Glen Washington and Norris Man amongst others whilst featuring a yet-to-be named special guest artiste. Also, persons planning to attend the show will be asked to make a US$20 donation for the cause as organizers hope to make at least US$50,000 from the concert for Buju’s legal defense.

The event’s main organizer, Taranee Jiles, is a long-time friend of Buju Banton; desiring a concept to help the artiste’s cause whilst languishing in a Texas federal prison. Out of friendship and the hope Buju walks free sooner rather than later, Jiles formulated the idea of the benefit concert; an idea fans and supporters of the Grammy-winning singjay quickly bought into.

“Mark is my friend and nobody was doing anything to help him, everybody was just talking, but nobody was acting,” Jiles intimated.

“With Buju’s blessings, I decided to do a benefits concert for him. Ran the idea also by his fellow artists and some other supporters, who all thought this was a good idea.”

A day following reports that a prominent Dancehall singjay was being sought by American law enforcement officials in connection with a notorious Jamaican drug lord, a Roots/Reggae singer is also being investigated for such an association.

United States drug officials revealed on Wednesday that a well-renowned Reggae singer has appeared on their radar as a possible link to former West Kingston strong man, Christopher “Dudus” Coke. According to officials, documents are currently being processed as they are seeking to arrest the singer. Additionally, it was revealed that the singer plies his trade as producer and promoter, despite having no major hit songs to his name.

The singjay being investigated has a green card according to the U.S, is Kingston-based and has several hit songs to his name. Additionally, the singjay reportedly has two warrants out for his arrest.

Christopher “Dudus” Coke currently awaits sentencing in the United States for charges in a drug case which he pled guilty to months earlier. Coke pled guilty to a count of racketeering conspiracy and a count of conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering.

Stacious details Bridgez fight, Esco happy with career progress

Surprises, excitement and controversy filled Saturday’s episode of RETV 5 to 7 Live as they welcomed several premier acts to the show, including three ladies of the highly-acclaimed Bedroom Riddim.

Prominent deejays, Stacious, Natalie Storm and Raine Seville heated up the RETV 5 to 7 Live studios with the premiere of their new Bedroom Riddim Medley music video. They intimated that the Riddim was done for the enjoyment of their male fans and also showed how various females in the industry could set aside their differences and egos to produce a hit.

However, the focus quickly shifted to Stacious, who’s been embroiled in controversy over the last week following the much reported fight between herself and fellow Alliance-affiliated artiste, Bridgez outside HYPE TV’s studios.

When asked by show host, Yanique Barrett regarding the root of their bad blood, Stacious implied that her issue with Bridgez was prompted by unnecessary pressures put on Bedroom Riddim Medley director, Timberlee during the video shoot in September. The growing tension on set triggered what Stacious called a “disrespectful” reaction from Bridgez; leading to their verbal altercation.

Then Stacious explained what caused their fight outside HYPE TV on November 11.

“We were all posing, mi a smile and pose up pon counter. Me feel my hand fly and get push out a di way…Di switch go flip,” Stacious explained before saying that she’s come out of that situation a better person.

Also appearing on RETV 5 to Live Saturday was Dancehall star, Esco Da Shocker, formerly of the popular group, Leftside and Esco.

The former selector is currently promoting his latest single, Encore while venturing within the producing ranks as he’s slated to release the Disorder Riddim; featuring prominent deejays such as Erup, Fambo and Wayne Marshall. Additionally, he’s slated to release a new album in the New Year.

Esco credits his career re-birth towards establishing a more mainstream sound. However, the veteran deejay admitted that he’s still somewhat hurt by not being alongside his former group mate, Leftside, who he parted ways from in 2007.

“Splitting up wid u best bredrin and u brother..it hard,” Esco intimated.

Meanwhile, Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall season 4 runner-up, Specialist, made a surprise appearance on RE 5 to 7 Live, performing his two hit singles, Street Hustle andGallis Anthem.

The latter song caused controversy amongst some Dancehall observers; interpreting his lyrics in Gallis Anthem as those promoting sex with underage girls. However, Specialist vehemently rubbished that theory; implying that he was referring to past students of the schools he mentioned while insisting that the support of high school students played a huge role in his rise to prominence.

“When we inna MKQ, a di schoolers help support wi ting. Mi nah lead dem out a di way.”

Other highlights from the show included producer/fashion extraordinaire, Romeich Major talking about how his desire to become involved within Dancehall fashion developed. The Romeich Records owner has designed for prominent Dancehall/Reggae acts such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man and Tarrus Riley. Additionally, he’s slated to debut a female fashion line in the near future.

Other Dancehall figures making appearances on the RETV show included G Whizz, who performed his new single, Life Sweet along with his summer hit, Bartender. Veteran Dancehall/Reggae superstar, Junior Reid as well as internationally acclaimed producer, Skatta Burrell also made appearances at RETV 5 to 7 Live as judges for the Freestyle Battle final.
