STATEMENT FROM BUSY SIGNAL

In this a time of reflection, I would like to thank my fans who have supported me through this difficult situation and who will continue to support me. Your messages and prayers via social networks and via members of my team are what have brought light to the darkness of my cell.

I have never admitted that I was involved in any drug deal or drug arrangement.  I waived my rights to an extradition trial here in Jamaica, so that I can return to the US to face a charge of absconding bail ONLY.  This incident took place ten (10) years ago before I even considered becoming an artiste.

As you can understand, this is a difficult time for me, however during my time away, my fans will not be left with a void – there are several unreleased tracks that will definitely keep you “busy” until my return. I recently released my album Reggae Music Again, which debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Reggae charts. On my recent tour of Amsterdam and Paris, we shot elements for the video to the title track of the album. It features cameos from Marcia Griffiths, Queen Ifrica and Anthony B and that will be released in a couple of weeks.

For my fans overseas, my management team has been in dialogue with promoters who have all shown their support for me and my situation and for that I thank them.

For my family, you have stood by me through thick and thin and I know you will continue to do so. In my time away, I have made the necessary arrangements with my management team to have you taken care of until my return.

To my band. Hi-Voltage, you have toured the world with me and have been a tower of strength. Continue to make good music until I return, cause the mission will continue.

I know that my facebook page has been inactive for a while, but, starting this week, Shane Brown, head of Juke Boxx management team, will assume direct control of my twitter account – @busysignal_turf  and my facebook page  - www.facebook.com/OneBusySignal. I will be kept updated so please continue to send your love, support and prayers through these channels, as they keep me going.

To my legal team, KD Knight, Bert Samuels and Roxanne Mars, your positive words and unfailing belief and support in me and my case have made this situation a little easier to bear. Thank you very much.

Finally my friends, my fans and my family, thank you again from the depths of my heart. Please keep me in your prayers.  “We not going down, cause God alone controls my destiny”

Xyclone creating a storm within Dancehall

It’s often hard for upcoming artistes within any genre to breeze through the industry given the many hurdles that must be faced. But for emerging Dancehall star, Xyclone, he’s stormed through the genre’s circles with impactful results.

Born Roje R. Robinson, Xyclone had an affinity for Dancehall music from a young age; a love which seemed genetically inclined given that his father, Peter Blacks hails as the iconic disc jockey of the Reggae Vibrations sound system in Philadelphia, PA.

After years of trying to perfect his craft, Xyclone soon caught his big break after meeting up with veteran Dancehall megastar, Spragga Benz who had been instrumental in the rise of fellow Dancehall superstar, Assassin. Xyclone recalls his meeting with Spragga Benz in 2007; a meeting which helped build their chemistry off-stage before ever working together on it.

“We were watching a movie, The Black Wall Street to be exact. I never forgot that night, it was December 26th, Sting night and the artist did a eat some vegetables and beans. And wi did a reason about the plot of the movie’ nothing music, just a reason like we knew each other for years,” he said.

From there, it was all systems go for Xyclone’s career as he then signed to Spragga Benz’s highly regarded Red Square stable, which features other bright up-and-comers such as Briggy Benz, Tajji, Bad Gal Bambi and Kemmikal. As a member of Red Square Tropical Heat Productions (RSQTHP), Xyclone has brought along his writing, producing and engineering abilities to the table, immediately showing his multi-faceted traits.

After showing his potential on track such as Champagne Life and Not Again (Fake Friends) in 2010, Xyclone quickly ascended within Dancehall’s ranks the following year as he unveiled several noteworthy tracks such as Nuh Frighten Wi, Back It Up and It’s My Earthstrong which showed his potential to successfully garner support within the underground ranks as well as in the clubs.

In 2012, Xyclone has asserted his presence even more with tracks such as Money & Girls as well as Baddest? Explain Dat, a song which took lyrical shots at fellow up-and-comer, Masicka while also showing off his strong vocals and proving himself as a worthy threat within the industry.

All of his attributes have led to Xyclone performing alongside many of Dancehall’s best including his mentor, Spragga Benz, Beenie Man, Demarco and Mavado. Additionally, he’s worked with several noted producers such as Llamar ‘Rif Raf’ Brown (Notice Productions), Bobby Chin (Black Chiney), and Red Square’s own Survivor Slim who also hails as one of his managers along with Roy Fearon.

Having secured a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance, Xyclone has shown himself a full-rounded person who can achieve great things away from the microphone.

With his resume’ boasting several commendable accomplishments, Xyclone looks to continue his run towards superstardom.

Jamaica’s ‘Chocolate Bunny’ keeps hopping on to greater ventures

Often when seeking celebrities to admire, fans look for a famous person who’s also a model citizen. In the case of Nahtasha Budhi, she embodies the true essence of both a top model and citizen that young women can pattern themselves after.

Dubbed as the Chocolate Bunny, the Jamaican-born Budhi has become one of the island’s most visually appealing pop culture figures, showing off her beauty in shoots from Los Angeles to Rome. But well before the cameras began taking still shots of her sultry brown skin, she was standing on the set of Ring Ding, the classic children’s television show, co-starring alongside legendary Jamaican poet/folklorist, Louise Bennett in the 1970s.

A then four year old Budhi got her first taste of the bright lights and from there, she never looked back. Starring in internationally acclaimed films such as Shattered Image and The Last Run, Budhi stuck to her Jamaican roots through starring in highly successful movies such as Dancehall Queen where she played the role of Dorothy.

For Budhi, starring alongside Dancehall icons like Beenie Man, Lady Saw and Chevelle Franklin was an honor for her and hopes to perform alongside them in future ventures.

“I’ve ‘kicked it’ with all these wonderful people, who I grew up with as friends and always expected the joy of being able to create magic with.  It will be my greatest pleasure, to someday perform with these amazing Jamaican artistes, on an international arena.  They have shown me so much love,” she said.

Her experiences with overseas films have also helped her profile a great deal and she credits her first agent, Cecelia Burrows as a major factor in helping her land these roles.

“I must thank my dear friend and first agent, Jamaican Cecilia Burrows – Big up red dread!  I would have never landed those roles, without her literally shoving me in front of every major producer or casting director that visited the island.  The exposure that I got, gave me a chance to have an amazing resume that got the attention of a lot of major players in Hollywood, that I’ve had the pleasure of working with.  I’m grateful for those hits and strive every day to land even bigger roles,” she said.

Busy Signal speaks out, promises good music while in custody

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae megastar, Busy Signal has addressed the public for the first time since his extradition case began, promising that his fans and admirers will continue to hear his quality sound while incarcerated.

The prominent singjay was arrested on an extradition warrant by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Monday. Three days later, he was denied bail during a hearing at the Half Way Tree Resident Magistrates Court in Kingston. However, Busy Signal exercised the option to waive his extradition rights, meaning that he will surrender to United States authorities next month.

Addressing his family, friends and fans for the first time since his arrest, Busy Signal released a statement on Saturday explaining his situation while insisting that those close to him have been instrumental in upholding his spirits during this most difficult period. Additionally, he intimated that fans will definitely be hearing material from him while away.

“In this a time of reflection, I would like to thank my fans who have supported me through this difficult situation and who will continue to support me. Your messages and prayers via social networks and via members of my team are what have brought light to the darkness of my cell.”

Finally my friends, my fans and my family, thank you again from the depths of my heart. Please keep me in your prayers. ‘We not going down, cause God alone controls my destiny.’”

Busy Signal is reportedly wanted on several drug charges in the United States. However, his attorney, K.D. Knight explained on Thursday that he cannot be tried on any of those charges given that they were not the subject matter of this particular case. Additionally, Knight insisted should the U.S. attempt to try him on those charges, it would violate a treaty agreement and could result in very serious consequences.

Busy Signal, whose real name is Glendale Gordon remains renowned for classics such as These Are The Days, Nah Go Jail Again, Step Out, Night Shift and Up In Her Belly.

Da’Nandi stamps his authority as a force within Dancehall music

Emerging Dancehall star, Da’Nandi continues his ascendancy within the genre’s ranks as he’s stepped up his game in 2012; showing his full potential as an artiste to the masses.

Born Andrique Wright, the Sherlock Crescent (Kingston) native continues to live out a dream which first came true after penning his first song at just 9 years old. Following his days at Jamaica College where he perfected several aspects of his repertoire including freestyling, Da’Nandi took his biggest step towards achieving his goal when he released the Weapon X International produced single, Tell Me When.

That single gave fans just a small sample of the lyrical ingenuity that Da’Nandi possessed as it soon garnered airplay locally and overseas while later copping a few stage show appearances as well as mixtape features.

From there, Da’Nandi’s star grew as he unleashed effort such as Party Vibez (S-Lock Records) and Mi Love It (Weapon X International) as well as appearing on an unofficial remix of Moment For Life by Trinidadian-American hip-hip diva, Nicki Minaj.

This year, Da’Nandi has stamped his authority as one of Dancehall’s future superstars as he’s unveiled well-received singles such as Real Badman in the Terrible Duppy Riddim (Gesta Music) and Mi Like You. His most recent collaboration with Weapon X International once again proved fruitful as Da’Nandi’s single, Up Inna Di Club offers a true party vibe as Da’Nandi continues to reach out to various demographics within Dancehall.

With his momentum continuously building, Da’Nandi will look to capitalize as he plans to take over the summer with upcoming projects such as Lyrical Ghandi on the Yardlink Riddim, Hunt Me a Hunt (Solid Empire) and Stop Chat (Zodiac Riddim) which his camp promises will put many artistes on notice. Additionally, future collaborations with Toronto based Dancehall star, Danger Matic and British rapper, Oranjee are also in the works.

Da’Nandi’s stock continues to grow within Dancehall circles as he continues to prove his worth as a legitimate contender for years to come.

Bounty Killer claims Beenie Man apologized for money

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall superstar, Bounty Killer won’t let his long-time rival, Beenie Man live down his decision to issue a recent video statement in which he tried to bury the hatchet with gay and lesbian critics who have long bashed his lyrical content.

Beenie Man responded to recent comments from Bounty Killer criticizing his perceived apology while implying that he sold out his beliefs by making this move. The self-professed King of the Dancehall steadfastly denied apologizing to the homosexual community, insisting that his purpose for the video statement was to ask gay, lesbian critics to stop holding lyrics from his younger years against him. Additionally, Beenie Man took shots at the Alliance leader, claiming that Bounty Killer should have been talking about a performance in Amsterdam in which he claims fans left before the self-proclaimed War Lord took the stage.

However, Bounty Killer refuses to back down; taking to Twitter to refute claims by Beenie Man that Jamaican artistes will see an increase in overseas shows, in part, because of his video statement.

According to Bounty Killer, he would not have done the same thing if put in such a position and that Dancehall music has helped boost Jamaica’s stance on homosexuality; intimating that artistes should not back down from said stance regardless of the possible financial implications.

Former Portmore Empire artistes weigh in on group’s split

Following yesterday’s announcement that the Portmore Empire has officially disbanded, a few of the group’s former members have reacted to the surprising news.

Early Wednesday morning, incarcerated Dancehall superstar and former Portmore Empire leader, Vybz Kartel issued a statement, via his Adidjahiem Records label in which he announced the dissolution of the ‘Gaza’ crew. According to Kartel, the group’s members were more than capable of managing their own careers while conceding that it would be unfair to hold them to such a cause given the burden of his ongoing legal woes.

While some former members such as Tommy Lee and Gaza Slim have already hitched on to a new label, PG13, others in the camp expressed shock at the move. Tasheba Campbell, more popularly known as Sheba had been a member of Portmore Empire since 2009 when he auditioned for Kartel before being recruited.

Vybz Kartel disbands the Portmore Empire

After five years in existence and stamping their place as one of Dancehall’s most dominant crews, the Portmore Empire has officially disbanded.

The shock announcement was made early Wednesday morning by Portmore Empire leader, Vybz Kartel, who issued a statement from jail confirming the group’s split through his Adidjaheim Records label.

According to Kartel, this hails as the best time for Empire artistes to try and achieve success on their own and that it would be unfair to keep them confined to his group given his ongoing legal situations.

“Dancehall fans worldwide it with great regret that I, Adidja Palmer, have decided to disband the Portmore Empire. These artistes have been under the Adidjahiem leadership for years, where they have honed their craft and made their mark, and as such, are well on their way to becoming major forces in Dancehall. They have reached a level where they are more capable to take on their careers by themselves, and it would be unfair to them, based on the limited resources of Adidjahiem Records, and current legal woes of the Adidjahiem C.E.O. and team members,” the statement reads.

“I wish them the best and I am confident that they will live up to my expectations. In the future, Adidjahiem will continue to bring out new acts and groom them for stardom,”

Already a pair of the Empire’s members, Vanessa ‘Gaza Slim’ Saddler and Leroy ‘Tommy Lee’ Russell have committed to a new project as they’ve joined a newly formed label entitled, PG13.

“Right now, a PG13 di ting deh,” Gaza Slim said.

Tommy Lee added, “Look out for PG13…It soon work in.”

The Portmore Empire became one of Dancehall’s most popular stables since its formation in 2007 by veteran deejay, Deva Bratt and Kartel. Though Deva Bratt left the group after a falling out with the self-proclaimed Worl’ Boss, the group soon flourished as they introduced several acts to the mainstream such as Jahvinci, Black Ryno, Lisa Hyper and most notably, Popcaan.

However, between the end of 2009 and last summer, the Empire soon shrunk as Lisa Hype, Black Ryno, Jahvinci and fellow members, Doza Medicine as well as Kym Hamilton (formerly Gaza Kym) all left the group, citing ill-treatment.

But with the emergence of Popcaan as a megastar with hits such as Ravin and Only Man She Want, the group elevated to seemingly higher heights before Kartel was arrested last September and later slapped with murder, drug and obstruction of justice related charges.

Beenie Man denies apologizing to homosexuals, fellow artistes react to video

The Jamaican music community has been buzzing since the release of a video statement by Dancehall legend, Beenie Man last week in which he confirmed his stance regarding gay and lesbian critics who’ve long hounded him throughout his career with regards to lyrical content.

Last week Wednesday, the self-professed King of the Dancehall unveiled a YouTube video via the Rototom Sunsplash European Reggae Festival’s official page in which he insisted that he had no personal issues with homosexuals and respected all human beings. He also urged gay and lesbian critics to stop attacking him for songs he did two decades ago which contained controversial lyrical content addressing the issue of homosexuality.

Beenie’s apparent apology to homosexuals drew the eyre of his long-time rival, Bounty Killer who tweeted several statements criticizing the move, one of which read, “Your view is your view, everyone have the right to their opinion. Giving an apology simple mean you stoop to their level and have second thoughts of your opinion, so simply you never believe in your opinion from first.”

Busy Signal arrested on extradition warrant, wanted by United States Government

The Jamaican music world has once again been left in shock after reports have emerged that internationally acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae megastar, Busy Signal has been arrested in connection with an extradition warrant.

According to several reports, the prominent deejay was taken into custody late last week after returning from his tour in Amsterdam, Holland which he had to cut short after receiving word of the extradition warrant. Busy Signal then travelled to England but was denied entry into the country before being held by British immigration officials and then deported. He then returned to Jamaica where he was arrested by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Monday afternoon.

This arrest comes months after media reports revealed that a prominent Jamaican entertainer was being sought out by United States law enforcement officials, who they believed was an associate of former West Kingston strongman, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.  Coke faces a sentencing hearing on Tuesday in which he could learn the length of time he will serve on drug-related charges and racketeering charges.

According to the head of the Organized Crime Investigation Division (OCID) and Senior Superintendent of Police, Fitz Bailey, Busy Signal is wanted on drug-related charges in the U.S.

Additionally, reports have indicated that the arrest was made after the Swag Tun Up singer has been suspected of using false identification while travelling. The artiste’s real name is Glendale Goshia Gordon but has been going by the name Reanno Devon Gordon. Furthermore, Busy Signal has been accused of fleeing the United States before he could be convicted on a cocaine charge in October 2002.

Busy Signal, who received bail on said cocaine charge in March of that year, allegedly removed his ankle bracelet which American law enforcement officials used to track him before fleeing to Jamaica. The highly regarded singjay has travelled across various continents such as Europe and Africa throughout his career but has avoided going to the United States.

Busy Signal will appear in the Half Way Tree Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where he will learn his fate regarding extradition. If extradited, he’ll be the first high profile Jamaican to be surrendered to American authorities in the two year’s since the arrest of Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke.

Busy Signal is renowned for several classics such as Step Out, Nah Go a Jail Again, These Are The Days, One More Night and Night Shift. He recently released his all-Reggae album, Reggae Music Again which recently copped a top 5 spot on the U.S Billboard Reggae Chart.

Elephant Man faces June court date in rape case

Internationally renowned Dancehall superstar, Elephant Man will have to wait a while longer before having an opportunity to answer to a rape charge.

The prominent deejay’s rape case was put off following a hearing inside the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates on Monday. As a result, the self-professed Energy God was assessed a June 28 court date where he will answer to charges of rape and grievous sexual assault.

The charges stem from an alleged incident at Elephant Man’s Hillcrest Avenue residence in St. Andrew this past January. Law enforcement officials relayed that a police report was filed by a woman claiming she was sexually assaulted at the artiste’s home.

Following an investigation by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) and a question-answer session in the presence of his lawyer, Elephant Man was slapped with rape and sexual assault charges.

Elephant Man has steadfastly denied the allegations, insisting that he would never put himself in such a position given his status as a role model and the responsibilities he bears in music.
