Jamaicans are being urged to prepare for the arrival of Tropical storm Sandy as a hurricane watch is now in effect for the island.
Hailing as the 18th storm to emerge since the beginning of the hurricane season (June 1), Tropical storm Sandy could strengthen into a hurricane within the next 24 hours. As of Tuesday afternoon, Tropical storm Sandy was located at approximately 250 miles south of Kingston, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 km/h).
According to several reports, the center of Tropical storm Sandy will hit Jamaica by Wednesday while tropical storm force winds could reach the island tonight.
