Junior Kelly Back In Jamaica After Successful Fall European Tour.

Reggae singer Junior Kelly is back home in Jamaica after a very successful fall European tour, which kicked off last October in Amiens, France. Even hurricane Sandy hitting Jamaica, weather conditions grounding flights and closing the Island airports couldn’t put a damper on him. He remained in high spirit and great energy.

Kelly departed as soon as the country airport in Montego Bay reopened on the Thursday, October 25 late evening right before his Friday, October 26 performance. With no time to spare as he landed, Junior Kelly was up for his meet and greet, press and straight to his scheduled performance.

Full of energy, good form and positively great vibes, Junior delivered his hits to the delight of eager fans. Taking the crowd on a melodic musical journey with classic songs such as “Love So Nice” to his latest hit “Been There” video. The tour took Kelly and his band through the Netherlands, France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

Reflecting on his tour Junior stated, “The energy and vibe i received from the fans during this tour was truly amazing and humbling and it was heart warming to see that people out there are still crying out for conscious music, my music, Reggae music”

“Its really beautiful to see three generations of people coming out to my concerts and enjoying and loving Reggae music, so i know it will live on”

“I really appreciate the fact that i am able to perform every day of the week and the fans came out in their numbers every night to listen to Reggae music, even in these harsh economic times when buying a concert ticket is so hard. These die-hearted fans in Europe are mainly from the poorer class of society and they have so many other choices in terms of artistes or food or paying a bill, but they come out because they see me as one of the young roots artistes whose messages make them feel good and one that is going to stand the test of time. It is truly a blessing and an honor.”

Bounty Killer

Bounty Killer says no to STING

Any hope that Dancehall superstar, Bounty Killer will perform at STING 2012 seems all but dashed after the ‘War Lord’ confirmed his intention to skip the popular stage show.

The Alliance leader, who initially was on the STING lineup, declared that he would not perform at STING following ‘disrespectful’ comments made by the show’s lead promoter, Isaiah Laing in an interview, implying that ‘Gaza’ deejay and current rival,Tommy Lee Sparta had a good chance of defeating him in a clash.

Though speculation within Dancehall circles was rife that Bounty Killer was bluffing, the ‘Grung Gaad’ confirmed during a radio interview on Wednesday that he was serious. The iconic entertainer stated that his STING deposit was returned a week and half ago and the contract originally signed to do the show is now null and void.

Vybz Kartel

Vybz Kartel granted bail on conspiracy charge

Embattled Dancehall superstar, Vybz Kartel is another step closer to temporary freedom as the prominent deejay has secured bail on another charge.

Kartel has been granted JA$500,000 bail in his conspiracy case in relation to the murder St. Catherine-based dancer, Clive ‘Lizard Williams. The ruling was made when Kartel appeared in the Corporate Area Criminal Court Tuesday morning.

Kartel, along with long-time musical protégé,Vanessa ‘Gaza Slim’ Saddler and studio engineer, Andre ‘Pim Pim’ Henry are charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice following Williams’ murder in August 2011. Prosecutors initially claimed they seized a cellphone containing text messages in which Kartel ordered Gaza Slim to file the report.

Vybz Kartel, who was also granted bail last December in the Barrington ‘Bossie’ Burtonmurder case, remains in police custody on the Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams murder charge.

The high-profile entertainer will return to court next month when the Barrington ‘Bossie’ Burtontrial is expected to commence. The Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams murder trial and accompanying conspiracy cases have been put off until January 2013.

Shaggy 2012

Shaggy and Friends show put off, changes made to format

The popular Shaggy and Friends charity event, which has raised over JA $90 million in aid of the Bustamante Hospital For Children, will not be staged for a second time this year.

The concert, hosted annually by Grammy-winning Jamaican entertainer, Shaggy and his Make a Difference foundation was due to stage its fourth edition late this year, featuring an all-Jamaican lineup in honor of Jamaica’s 50th independence anniversary. However, Shaggy and Friends has will now be held every other year after a decision was made to revamp the event’s setup.

Shaggy’s manager and Solid Agency head,Sharon Burke confirmed the singer’s decision to hold his charitable initiative bi-annually, but did not divulge additional details.

Shaggy and Friends was first staged in December 2009, eight years after Shaggyfirst partnered with the Bustamante Hospital for Children. That initial staging featured high-profile entertainers such as Sean Paul, Etana, Marcia Griffiths and American R&B singer, Macy Gray. The first edition raised over JA$27 million for the hospital.

The second installment of Shaggy and Friends took place on January 2011, where Bounty Killer, Cham, Machel Montano, Tarrus Riley and Boyz II Men all performed. That year, the event reeled in over JA$30 million.

The third edition of Shaggy and Friends took place on January 7 of this year after being moved back a week due to Jamaica’s general elections. The event featured Romain Virgo, Maxi Priest, Tami Chynn and American rap sensation, Eve who was accompanied by award-winning dancer,Mystic Davis during her set.

Despite continuous on-stage demands by hip-hop/soul legend, Lauryn Hill during her set, this year’s edition of Shaggy and Friends reeled in JA$32 million. Some of the money raised through Shaggy’s event has been donated towards new equipment as well as the building of a cardiac ward for the Bustamante Hospital for Children.
