Tiana

Tiana nominated for Female artiste of the Year in Kenya

TianaFast-rising Dancehall artiste and the self-professed Dancehall Duchess, Tiana has once again proven her strong outreach in the continent of Africa as she’s been nominated for a major accolade in the mother continent.

Tiana was recently nominated for Female Artiste of the Year at the 2012 Kingston 10 Reggae Awards in Kenya. Based in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, Kingston 10 hails as a prominent Dancehall/Reggae show that highlights many of Jamaica’s top entertainers on a daily basis; promoting the island’s key genres across the country.

Known for her strong fan base in the West African country, Tiana was nominated for Female Artiste of The Year alongside the Queen of Dancehall, Lady Saw, prominent Dancehall divas, Tifa and Ce’Cile as well as Reggae warrior, Ikaya.

Tiana had a commendable follow-up year to her breakout campaign in 2011. After scoring with hits like Bruk Out and Wine, Highest Grade and many others last year, Tiana made waves with hits like Only Girl Him Want (remix of Popcaan’s Only Man She Want), Dem a Bawl, Don’t Stop and One Stuck Whine. Dem a Bawl landed Tiana a top 10 spot on the MTV Base Africa Dancehall/Reggae charts while holding down top spot on the Kenyan charts four consecutive weeks.

The Dancehall Duchess is no stranger to award nominations this year as she not only copped a pair of nominations at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) this past July, but she was named Jamaica’s top new artiste at the 2012 3B Entertainment Industry Awards in October.

Tiana is seeking your support as she contends for the Kingston 10 Reggae Award for Best Female Artiste. To participate in the process, head over to the official Kingston 10 Facebook page to cast your vote for this emerging star.

The Kingston 10 Reggae Awards is now in its fifth year and will take place in January 2013.

Popcaan-Black-Ryno-Fight

STING promoter threatens Black Ryno with lawsuit following brawl with Popcaan

Popcaan-Black-Ryno-FightThe infamous brawl at STING 2012 between revered ‘Gaza’ deejays, Popcaan and Black Ryno may have garnered a few laughs from Dancehall fans, but the show’s promoter isn’t smiling about the matter and plans to take legal action against one of the combatants.

Supreme Promotions head and STING 2012 lead promoter, Isaiah Laing is reportedly considering a lawsuit against Black Ryno for instigating the much talked about incident with his ex-Portmore Empire teammate. This, after Ryno walked out on Popcaan’s set as he tried to start a clash between himself and the self-professed ‘Fry Yiy.’ However, Popcaan was in no mood for lyrical confrontation, shoving Ryno off the stage before a near minute-long brawl ensued involving the artistes and their entourages.

Spice prop at STING

Sizzla, Busy Signal shine at drama-filled STING 2012

Spice prop at STINGIn the New Living Translation version of the Bible, John 1:5 reads, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” Perhaps this enlightening quote from scripture sums up STING 2012 in a nutshell: A night filled with few stellar performances standing out above the drama and sub-standard efforts that dominated Dancehall’s biggest stage show.

STING 2012 was hyped in recent weeks as a revamped stage show focusing on strong performances, unearthing more young talent and an adjusted clash format. Though the show left a somewhat disappointing taste in the minds of hardcore Dancehall fans, some noteworthy acts and less recognizable names added flavor to an event that has lost some taste in recent years.

After a number of unknown acts and a clash of the bands dominated the first few hours of STING, it took a couple of veterans to finally put life into the show; primarily Wickaman, who delivered a spirited performance while honoring his long-time friend and fellow deejay, Captain Barkey, delving into their catalogue of hits from the 90s and 2000s.

Fellow veteran, Lady G proved she still has gas left in the tank while comedic entertainer Food Kartel also engaged the crowd by ‘cooking’ some of this year’s biggest hits like Uncle Demon (Shook) and many others.

However, it was a newcomer that really ignited the crowd inside Jamworld in Portmore early Thursday morning as emerging Reggae star, Chronixx elevated his worth, delivering a wholesome set capped off by his smash hit, Warrior while proving himself as a must-see attraction for 2013 and beyond. From there, things heated up as ‘The Strong One,’ Etana gave a rousing set while Iba Mahr and I-Wayne also delivered strong sets.
