Clifton Brown

Cliff-Twang faces new lawsuit for allegedly issuing bounced cheques

Clifton BrownLegal problems continue to mount for Jamaican YouTube sensation, Clifton ‘Cliff-Twang’ Brown as the one-time deejay now faces a lawsuit claiming he bounced several cheques at a gas station last year.

The allegations stem from instances where Brown allegedly issued three bounced cheques to a Corporate Area gas station for gas, amongst other items. The St. Thomas native was told he had insufficient funds in his account after sending said cheques. The lawsuit was reportedly filed in the Sutton Street Resident Magistrates Court after Brown failed to pay the money owed once notified of the issue and now is being sued for JA$56,000.

He faces a Valentine’s Day (February 14) court hearing in the matter.

This is the second time in just over a week a legal issue involving Cliff-Twang has been publicized. Last week Tuesday it was reported that he was jailed in December for failing to pay child maintenance after turning down a bail offer of JA$80,000.

Brown repeatedly appeared in Kingston’s Family Court after his baby’s mother accused him of being behind in child support payments. He finally received bail this past Thursday and will re-appear in the Family Court next month in that case.

After a remix of a Prime Time News video appeared on YouTube in the summer of 2011, Brown rose to prominence for his ‘twanging’ and popular catch phrase, ‘Nobody Canna Cross It,’ when describing flooding at the Mavis Bank Bridge in his native parish. The DJ Powa produced video copped millions of views and made several television appearances and scored an endorsement deal with local telecommunications giant, LIME for his efforts.

Romain Virgo shines, international stars dazzle at Jazz and Blues

Chronixx at Jazz and BluesFor three nights in January, the 2013 edition of the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival offered performances and moments leaving little doubt as to why it is one of the island’s premiere events.

On Thursday, crowds lined up in anticipation of a jam-packed opening night lineup at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium as Jazz and Blues kicked off its 17th staging of the event. A decent turnout accompanied a bill headlined by legendary Reggae band, Third World, who were celebrating their 40th anniversary as a group.

Third World closed out an all-Jamaican opening night roster with a rousing set including hits such as Now That We Found Love, Forbidden Love, amongst a host of others. They were also honored for their vast contributions to the Jamaican music industry along with fellow Reggae legend, Ken Boothe, who celebrated his 50th year as a recording artiste. Boothe, along with Rootz Underground, Nadine Sutherland and Cocoa Tea all gave typically resounding efforts as they warmed up music fans for the heat that would be on display over the weekend.

Night two featured a buzzing crowd and with that, some stinging sets as some international flavour added taste to the Jazz and Blues show. The queen of R&B/Soul, Mary J. Blige made a sparkling debut on Jamaican soil as she interacted with her audience through classics like No More Drama, Be Without You and a host of others.
