They were hailed by many as Dancehall’s best deejays for their respective genders in 2012 and on Saturday, Konshens and Tifa validated those plaudits by snagging a variety of honors at the 2013 Youth View Awards.
The highly-revered entertainers took home three awards each on a night that saw many repeat winners and some standout performances at the National Indoor Sports Complex in Kingston. Tifa, who dominated last year’s show by taking home six awards, took home the Favourite Local Artiste (Female) award, trumping rivals Spice and Lady Saw for the honor. Despite her well-documented fallout with Lady Saw last year, Tifa took time during her acceptance speech to pay homage to the ‘Queen of Dancehall.’
The Hold On singer also took home the award for Hot, Young and Hype female of the year as well as Female Fashion Icon.
Konshens won the male equivalents of the Favourite Local Artiste and Hot, Young and Hype awards during Saturday’s show. Kartel clipped ‘Gaza’ deejays, Vybz Kartel and Tommy Lee Sparta for the Favourite Local Artiste honor, capping a year for the chart-topping singer who scored multiple hits including Gal a Bubble, Stop Sign and Siddung.
The latter single, featuring Darrio, also won him the award for Favourite Collaboration, beating Wayne Marshall’s Go Hard, Badmind Dem a Pree (I-Octane and Bounty Killer) as well as Informer (Vybz Kartel and Tommy Lee Sparta).Click Here To Read More
