Jamaican sprinting legend, Usain Bolt is literally giving his fans the opportunity to walk a mile in his shoes as his personal running spikes are now be auctioned.
These sneakers were custom made by popular shoe brand, PUMA for the six-time Olympic gold medalist, bare his autograph and are not available in any stores worldwide. Bolt has exclusively worn these sneakers in preparation for the ongoing 2013 season as well as the upcoming IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow in August.
Bolt’s custom-made shoes feature a lot of personal imprints from the highly-revered sprinter, such as personally-inserted spikes and laces as well as blue dye taken from his training track on the University of the West Indies (UWI) campus. Additionally, these unique spikes feature Bolt’s ‘Ugo’ moniker as well as his saying ‘there can only be one.’
The shoes are being auctioned on eBay, with the bidding starting at US$1,000. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Kingston chapter of the Lays Magistrates Association of Jamaica (LMAJ) to help fund their social projects, including a mentorship program at the Tower Street Correctional Programmein downtown Kingston.
This is not the first time Bolt has auctioned a pair of his running shoes. In 2010, a pair of Bolt’s signed shoes sold for US$2,000, which he later donated to the charity of Ivory Coast and former Chelsea star footballer, Didier Drogba.
Last July, that bid was shattered when a signed pair of his spikes sold for £25,000 at a live charity auction in Birmingham, England, just days before the start of last year’s Olympics in London.
