Busy Signal added to Reggae Sumfest 2014 lineup

Busy Signal Reggae SumfestAfter five years away from Jamaica’s most popular and acclaimed stage show, Busy Signal will be returning to Reggae Sumfest after it was confirmed Wednesday that the singjay is on this year’s lineup.

The entertainer will be one of the headliners on Dancehall Night July 17th, joining I-Octane, Mr. Vegas, AlkalineAidonia, Spice and more on the bill. This would mark Busy Signal’s first Sumfest performance since 2009, where he memorably performed his single, El Shaddai, as tribute to the late, great king of pop, Michael Jackson, who died a month earlier of cardiac arrest. It was also announced on Wednesday that Reggae legend, Freddie McGregorhas been added to the lineup.

After being released from a U.S. prison in Nov. 2012, Busy performed at STING 2012 just over a month after his release. He has since performed other local sets, including the Arthur Guinness Daycelebrations in October.

In the meantime, Busy Signal continues to reap the benefits from his biggest commercial success, Bumaye (Watch out for This), in which he featured with American super producers, Major Lazer. The song’s official video has garnered over 70 million views on YouTube, the single itself topped charts and made radio/TV playlists worldwide and was officially certified platinum in Denmark.

Pepsi commercial released last year, featuring world class footballer and four-time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi, included Bumaye as its background track.

Reggae Sumfest 2014, which will take place from the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay from July 13-19, also features season five winner of The Voice, Tessanne Chin, who will feature on International Night 2on July 19. American rap superstar, Wiz Khalifa, Reggae stalwarts, Jah Cure and Chronixx, plus the ‘King of the Dancehall,’ Beenie Man, who are all scheduled to perform on International Night 1 July 18th.

The show is being sponsored by The Gleaner Company Ltd., Jamaica Tourist Board, Digicel, Iberostar, Pepsi, Secrets and IRIE FM.
