Fans of incarcerated dancehall/reggae singer, Buju Banton have gotten very little new material from him since his conviction on drug charges in 2011. Thanks to Stone Cold Records, music lovers are now able to hear his signature voice again on a newly-released single, My Favourite Song, which features emerging American singer,Marco.

Though the song has just been unveiled, it’s not entirely new as the song was originally recorded in 2001, but never released. My Favourite Song (song is below article) sees Buju experiment with an up-tempo pop beat made specifically for the club scene.

Stone Cole Records founder and producer, Mark Hudson said that despite not being in direct contact with Buju, he has sent word to him about the release. According to Hudson in an interview with the Jamaica Observer, he released My Favourite Song as a way to encourage more positive talk about the artist given so much has been said about his current legal situation.

Buju and Stone Cold Records have previously collaborated on singles such as Body Ready and Five-O.

This news comes after a picture of Buju performing in a Georgia federal prison emerged last week. The entertainer, who has been studying for a Master’s degree behind bars, performed with a small band in front of fellow prisoners, with fans expressing joy over the development.

Recently, Penthouse Records CEO, Donovan Germain confirmed that his label has been sitting on several Buju songs, but cited quality control as the reason for not releasing them.
