Singjay, J Capri dies at age 23 following serious injuries sustained in car crash

J CapriJust a few days ago, the outlook for budding dancehall star, J Capri seemed optimistic; a flurry of music/entertainment industry players rushing to donate blood, reports of the singjay breathing on her own despite being placed in an induced coma and the firm belief from doctors that she would make a full recovery following serious injuries sustained in a car accident on November 23.

But on Friday morning, all hopes was dashed after the tragic announcement that the entertainer, born Jordan Joel Phillips succumbed to her injuries, dying just three weeks shy of her 24th birthday.

The Head Concussion Records recording artiste had emergency surgery following the accident, in which her car flipped and crashed along Barbican Road in St. Andrew, leaving her with a cracked skull and other serious injuries, losing a significant amount of blood in the process.

When the news broke, several entertainers chimed in with condolences, expressing shock and grief on social media while paying tributes to the dancehall starlet, including her former Head Concussion Records producers, Tarik ‘Rvssian’ Johnston and Troy ‘Sensi’ Allen.

Johnston said of the news, “R.I.P J Capri .. Jordan, Jah know star 😢😪😓 we made history together. Watch you grow from nothing to something iconic. Hurts my heart to know you are gone 💔.. You will never be forgotten. You were apart of the HCR Fam .. My condolences to everyone in her life.”

Allen added, “R.I.P (Return If Possible) jah jah know star can’t believe .. capri a nuh so it fi go u not suppose to be gone dat never Ina it return n tell me I was only dreaming, sad f*****g day star, sleep in peace @jcapri_hcr.”

Dancehall star, Spice said in an Instagram post, “OMG R.I.P Jordan JCAPRI…words can’t explain how this sad news is making me feel right Now. The thought have hearing you talk about your dreams when we use to talk makes it hurt even more because I knew you would get there. We use to say we are sister because of our resemblance we laughed so hard together.”

Dancehall legend, Lady Saw also paid her respects, saying, “My heart is saddened .. I met her in July at Hype TV and she was bubbly so full of life and into character before she went on to perform .. My heart goes out to her family and friends #R.IP Jcapri”

Konshens, who collaborated with J Capri on her hit single, Pull Up To Mi Bumpa in 2013 wrote on Instagram, “Condolences to the family and friends. saw what you did, what you were doing and what you were about to do. I hope Jamaica,Dancehall and music lovers worldwide understand who and WHAT we just lost,” while Charly Black who teamed with her on another hit, Wine and Kotch couldn’t bring himself to bear the news, saying, “I won’t accept this news right now ok.”

J Capri was also known for singles such as Reverse It as well as Mamacita (alongside Vybz Kartel), and also had strong followings in North America and Europe.
