Ishawna kills it as ‘Murderer’ video garners positive reviews

IshawnaEmerging singer and Downsound recording artist, Ishawna has been creating quite a buzz with the release of her latest music video titled, Murderer.

Originally released last October, Murderer features samples of the classic song, Murderer by embattled Reggae/Dancehall legend, Buju Banton. The accompanying video for the song, released in late March, features a combination of steamy love scenes and intense arguments and has seemed to connect well with fans, with well over 6,000 YouTube views to date.

The video for Murderer, filmed at locations across Kingston and Negril, also premiered during Easter Weekend on two popular CVMTV shows, DWrap and OnStage.

In a statement, Ishawna said she is pleased about the response her new video has received.

I’m so happy about the way things are going with my video, we really did our best to make it right and I must say that result is very good; the fans love it a lot,” she said. “I’ve also been getting a lot of positive feedback about the video from people in the business as well.”

According to Ishawna’s manager and Downsound Records CEO, Joe Bogdanovich, he expects the Murderer video to enhance her career.

“The video tells a good story,” he said. “It’s about lovers who are always fighting but in the end they are making love, so we have a happy ending. I think this video is going to take Ishawna’s career to another level, because it’s not just a regular music video, the acting in the video is superb. Ishawna is a really talented young lady, she’s not just a good singer she also possesses good acting skills and this video is going to show that to the people and they are going to love it.”

He also added, “We at Downsound like to do things right, so we really spent a lot of time working on this video, choosing the right locations, making sure the acting was perfect, we made sure every scene was filmed properly and the results are great.”

Ishawna is continuing to reap success from her hit collaboration, Do For Love alongside fellow Downsound artist, Specialist, with the video for that single having been viewed over 60,000 times on YouTube. She is currently busy in the studios working on a number of soon-to-be released projects.

Foota Hype inks deal with Downsound Records

Downsound Records is excited to announce that they have officially added ace music selector Foota Hype to their growing stable of top-ranking talent. Foota Hype comes to Downsound with an untarnished record for breaking some of the island’s baddest hits, and biggest hitmakers at major local events like Fully Loaded and Uptown Mondays, and venues around the globe. After more than a decade as a one man army, he is expanding his scope with a management and booking deal with Downsound.

Since 2001, when he got his big break at Fully Loaded, Foota Hype has made a name for himself as one of Jamaica’s leading soundmen, producers, and entertainment personalities. Known for producing Mavado’s anthem “Touch Di Road” on his Gully Creature Riddim and the single “For You” by Ishawna and Demarco, as well as for his affiliation to the Bounty Killer-led Alliance, Foota Hype has been a friend of Downsound for years through his friendship with the label’s recording artist Harry Toddler.  Now that Downsound has revamped and re-energized their entertainment outfit, label head Josef Bogdanovich feels this is the right time to solidify their relationship with Foota Hype.

Downsound Records showcases upcoming and veteran talent with VSOP Riddim

High-powered Reggae label Downsound Records is officially announcing that they’ve re-opened their Kingston recording studio with the release of the VSOP Riddim. Committed to developing and nurturing fresh talent, Downsound’s VSOP Riddim was produced by the label’s team of  young producers and engineers, namely Roel Powell and Kimani Smith, and features Downsound’s arsenal of top-shelf talent; 2011 Magnum Kings & Queens runner up Specialist, femme fatale Toya, G Warren, and Motion, as well as veteran deejay Harry Toddler.  Adding sheer power to the VSOP line-up are Dancehall king Beenie Man, and rising stars Jah Vinci and Khago.

“You A Life,” the riddim’s lead single, is Toya’s bold and sassy declaration for women who “a nuh wife, dem a life.” Specialist, whose debut single “Street Hustle” is currently #3 on the Jamaica Music Countdown, hits the VSOP Riddim hard with “Gallis Anthem,” geared toward his substantial teen fan base. Beenie Man’s “Be Ready,” and Specialist’s “Time Hard” are political/social commentaries on issues affecting the ‘ghetto youth’ and poor people. Other stand-out singles from Dancehall Harry Toddler, G. Warren, Motion, Jah Vinci, and Khago round out the VSOP Riddim compilation, which is largely driven by new talent, versus the usual crop of well known deejays.
