One Love, One Life cover

Beres Hammond reaches number one on Billboard chart

One Love, One Life coverReggae legend, Beres Hammond has been enjoying lots of international exposure in recent weeks and with good reason as his latest album has topped Billboard.

Hammond’s new album, One Love, One Life, peaked at number one on the Billboard Reggae Album chart in this, its fourth week on the chart. One Love, One Life, which debuted on November 13, has been in the top 5 of Billboard’s Reggae chart ever since its release and, according to SoundScan, has sold just under 2,200 copies to date.

Hammond’s creativity dominated on the double disc, as he produced or wrote 19 of its 20 tracks. The album contains several conscious and lover’s rock songs, the type of music that has made Hammond one of Reggae music’s greatest products.

This is the latest in a strong run in the United States for Hammond, who appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show over a week ago, where he promoted One Life, One Live and performed alongside Grammy-winning hip-hop/soul band, The Roots.

He followed that up by performing at the ground-breaking Sounds of Reggae concert inside Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on December 12 where he shared the stage with fellow, highly-acclaimed musicians such as Shaggy, UB40 and Maxi Priest. Two days later, Hammond performed at the Hard Rock Café in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

One Love, One Life is also available for purchase on iTunes https://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/one-love-one-life/id570381729 and is being distributed by VP Records, in collaboration with Hammond’s Harmony House label.

BERES HAMMOND SCORES LATE NIGHT TV DEBUT WITH JIMMY FALLON

BERES HAMMOND SCORES LATE NIGHT TV DEBUT WITH JIMMY FALLON

Beres Hammond is scheduled to make his late night television debut on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show on Tuesday, December 11th, 2012.  The Grammy-nominated reggae icon will be greeted by Jimmy Fallon and sit in with The Roots to perform his hits in and out of the commercial breaks. The following day on December 12th, Beres Hammond will take over the new Brooklyn Barclays Center at the Sounds of Reggae Concert along with UB40, Maxi Priest and Shaggy. Beres Hammond will make the crowd melt performing his iconic songs as well as new material off his anticipated album One Love, One Life.

His new double-disc studio collection will be available November 13 on VP Records. Beres Hammond had a hand in producing 19 of the 20 songs. The first disc One Love includes his signature classic lover’s rock sound on new singles like “No Candle Light” and “Keep Me Warm,” while the second disc One Life contains more of his socially-conscious, spiritually-empowering tunes including “You Stand Alone,” “Truth Will Live On” and “Prime Time.”
Fans and critics alike have been eagerly awaiting this release. After the announcement, OKAYPLAYER raved “Beres Hammond is the Barry White of the Caribbean. He is also the Teddy Pendergrass of the Caribbean and the Frankie Beverly & Maze of the Caribbean. Which is to say he is the go-to babymaker, the best kept secret and the perennial crowd favorite who apparently does not know how to fall off–all rolled into one man.”

Whether Rihanna is quoting his lyrics on Twitter or Drake is retweeting that “Beres Hammond has to sing at my wedding,” Jamaica’s most prolific crooner has influenced some of the biggest stars today. Known to many as the “Otis Redding of Reggae,” Beres Hammond has been producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet voice over every kind of riddim track for over three decades.

From his early days as the lead singer of the ‘70s funk-reggae infused band Zap Pow,Beres has consistently produced number one hits and iconic reggae anthems still played today. While newcomers are searching for a breakthrough hit and old timers are plotting their comeback, Beres is a study in longevity.  He released his first studio album, Soul Reggae in 1976 spawning the number one hit “One Step Ahead” and in 1985 the dancehall breakthrough “What One Dance Can Do” off his self entitled album. He has collaborated with reggae’s elite—Marcia Griffiths andBuju Banton are virtually staples on any Beres tour—and has worked with legendary producers like Willie Lindo, Steely and Clevie, and Philip “Fattis” Burrell. In 1990, his album A Love Affair from Donovan Germaine’s Penthouse label raised his popularity to new heights. Cuts like “Tempted To Touch” and “Who Say” with Buju Banton are still huge in the dancehall today. During the ‘90s, Beres blazed a trail of modern classics for a variety of producers, from the strugglers’ anthem “Putting Up Resistance” (Tappa) to lovers’ laments like “Come Back Home” (Star Trail). In 2001, Beres brought us major hits like “They Gonna Talk” and “Rock Away” from his Grammy-nominated album Music Is Life. VP Records then released The Ultimate Collection: Can’t Stop A Man in 2003 to commemorate Hammond’s career, and in 2004 Love Has No Boundaries, which features his familiar romantic ballads and mid-tempo dancehall grooves. His last studio album A Moment In Time was released in 2008 and features his most recent smash hit “I Feel Good.” Beres Hammond’s track record of hits is unprecedented in reggae.

He has garnered an international fan base from his ceaseless touring schedule around the globe. He performs non-stop and has repeatedly sold out some of the country’s largest and most prestigious venues including the Theatre at Madison Square Gardenand Radio City Music Hall. He is also a star favorite among Alicia Keys, Carl Thomas and Wyclef Jean.

Wearing a pair of short red shorts and glittery tennis shoes, Jimmy Fallon challenged Usain Bolt to a race walk through NBC studios last night on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.'

Usain Bolt on Jimmy Fallon late night show

Wearing a pair of short red shorts and glittery tennis shoes, Jimmy Fallon challenged Usain Bolt to a race walk through NBC studios last night on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.’ Bolt has wowed the running world at the Beijing Olympics and again at the IAAF World Championships, where he set new world records for the 100- and 200-meter races. While he completely dominates at his races on the track, how will he fare during a race walk?

Jimmy Fallon explains the course and they both limber up in anticipation of the race. While Usain Bolt looks like he’s barely moving during the race, he pretends to wipe sweat off his brow and does a moonwalk across the finish line:

Usain Bolt doesn’t say much during the segment, but Fallon asks him if ever imagined he would be the fastest man alive. The segment focuses mainly on the race walk, but it would have been interesting if Fallon had done a sit-down interview with the track star.

Usain Bolt’s
appearance on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ is just the latest stop on his whirlwind media tour in New York City. So far in his visit, Bolt has attended a Yankees game, appeared on numerous local radio programs, spoken at Walt Whitman College and even “raced” against 11 ESPN staffers: While his track season is over for the year, Usain Bolt is making the
most of his worldwide fame. He is apparently considering several multi-million dollar endorsement offers, and his current trip to the United States will only help to increase his visibility among Americans who don’t follow track and field.
