Theodore Whitmore set to resign from Reggae Boyz

Theodore WhitmoreLong-time manager for the Jamaican senior national football team, Theodore Whitmore will resign from his post effective Wednesday following their fourth consecutive defeat in their CONCACAF World Cup qualifying campaign Tuesday night.

Whitmore was reportedly asked to step down by Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Captain Horace Burrell following Jamaica’s 2-0 loss to Honduras in Tegucigalpa yesterday. The former Reggae Boyz midfielder confirmed the news Wednesday morning, telling the Jamaica Gleaner, “He [Burrell] asked me to [resign] … we had a meeting last night,”

A press conference has been scheduled for Wednesday where Captain Burrell and Whitmore are expected to make the announcement regarding the latter’s resignation.

Jamaican-born Liverpool winger, Raheem Sterling turns to producing

Raheem SterlingAs a winger for storied English Premier League side, Liverpool, Jamaican-born footballer, Raheem Sterling has produced some flashes of his potential to become of the league’s future stars. Now he is shifting to produce results in the music arena as he works on his on-field skills.

Sterling, 18, recently visited Jamaica on vacation, where he recorded up-and-coming deejays, The Rizing and Dotta Coppa for a soon-to-be released single, Young Ghetto Star. The single, produced under the Raheem Music label talks about Sterling’s rise to the EPL from the inner-city community of Maverley, where the Liverpool player grew up. It will be released through digital music stores at the end of March.

Jamaican artistes collaborate on new Reggae Boyz theme song

With CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers set to restart early next month, some of Jamaica’s top musicians are contributing to the Reggae Boyz cause as they have been recording a new theme song for the Jamaican national football (soccer) team.

The Reggae Boyz will begin the second round of qualifiers on June 8 against Guatemala as they attempt to make it to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Should they succeed in their efforts, it would be the first time qualifying for football’s most prestigious tournament since the 1998 World Cup in France.

As locals try to rally the troops for their ‘Road to Rio’ World Cup campaign, Dancehall & Reggae artistes are lending their voices as support for the national team by recording a new theme song to help cheer them on. The song, Fever Taking Over was co-written by prominent songwriter/producer, Mickey Bennett, who revealed that he was asked by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) two months ago to write a piece that would help spark the Reggae Boyz campaign.
