Junior Kelly Back In Jamaica After Successful Fall European Tour.

Reggae singer Junior Kelly is back home in Jamaica after a very successful fall European tour, which kicked off last October in Amiens, France. Even hurricane Sandy hitting Jamaica, weather conditions grounding flights and closing the Island airports couldn’t put a damper on him. He remained in high spirit and great energy.

Kelly departed as soon as the country airport in Montego Bay reopened on the Thursday, October 25 late evening right before his Friday, October 26 performance. With no time to spare as he landed, Junior Kelly was up for his meet and greet, press and straight to his scheduled performance.

Full of energy, good form and positively great vibes, Junior delivered his hits to the delight of eager fans. Taking the crowd on a melodic musical journey with classic songs such as “Love So Nice” to his latest hit “Been There” video. The tour took Kelly and his band through the Netherlands, France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

Reflecting on his tour Junior stated, “The energy and vibe i received from the fans during this tour was truly amazing and humbling and it was heart warming to see that people out there are still crying out for conscious music, my music, Reggae music”

“Its really beautiful to see three generations of people coming out to my concerts and enjoying and loving Reggae music, so i know it will live on”

“I really appreciate the fact that i am able to perform every day of the week and the fans came out in their numbers every night to listen to Reggae music, even in these harsh economic times when buying a concert ticket is so hard. These die-hearted fans in Europe are mainly from the poorer class of society and they have so many other choices in terms of artistes or food or paying a bill, but they come out because they see me as one of the young roots artistes whose messages make them feel good and one that is going to stand the test of time. It is truly a blessing and an honor.”

Junior Kelly - inside C -pic 9

Junior Kelly scores # 1 with the hit single “Been There”

After 15 weeks on the Jamaica Music Countdown Top 25 Reggae Singles Chart, singer Junior Kelly has convincingly captured the number one slot with the gripping, reality-laced  single, “Been There“.
Chart-watchers had early predicted  that “Been There” would have enjoyed exciting chart success, noting that there was a strong possibility of it taking over the pole position. Well, it’s ‘Mission Accomplished’. They are now eyeing the song’s progress on the long-running New York Reggae Singles Chart, where it now sits in the number 6 spot and is steadily making upward movements. Kellyhas also dominated the popular Stampede Street Chart, where he has been singled out as ‘Artiste of the Week‘.
On the Broadleaf riddim, produced by Big Bomb Entertainment, “Been There” adds to Junior Kelly’s list of songs which have impacted in a huge way. Among them are the  “Sunshine,” “Boom Draw“, “Hungry Days,” Missing You (with Bar-bee)”, “Receive” and the blockbuster, breakout single, “Love So Nice“, which spent a record 15 weeks at number one.
The single, which was driven by the music video, is currently getting good rotation across the globe and Kelly himself has been busy on the promotional trail, ensuring that “Been There”  forms part of his  live set.
He explained that the initial response to the song was so overwhelming that he did the music video ahead of schedule. The video, which has a simple and effective storyboard, sees Kelly playing the role of a taximan, as he belts out the lyrics to the song.
“I give thanks to all those who worked assiduously to make this single number one. Naturally, it’s a good feeling when fans endorse your music and it gives me the encouragement to continue along this path,” the conscious Rastafarian commented.
Junior Kelly, who has been enjoying a strong season of success, both in Jamaica and overseas, has easily reclaimed his space in the US market after an hiatus. His performance in Brooklyn at the Rose Garden on July 8 was so powerful that he was immediately booked for a second show to be held at the VillageNY on July 22.  Kelly gave a masterful performance at the Bayfront Reggae Festival,Minnesota, last Saturday, alongside Jamaican artistes Ce’cileAnthony B and Gramps Morgan.
Fans will be treated to another side of Junior Kelly on SundayJuly 29, at Weaver High School, Hartford Connecticut. He will be participating in the annual Celebrity Soccer Games, an event which he is quite enthusiastic about.
Junior Kelly has been in the business of making uplifting and empowering reggae music for more than 25 years. Beginning his career during Dancehall’s ‘rude boy’ era in the late ’80s, Kelly’s inspiring messages have always made him a standout artist within Jamaica’s heavily populated entertainment scene.
His breakthrough single “Love So Nice” established him as a bonafide star in 2000. His commanding juxtaposition of precisely timed, deejayed rhymes and melodic singing, coupled with his vivid storytelling abilities, took the song to #1 on the Jamaican charts. The album “Love So Nice“, released in 2001, also spawned the well-received singles which brought him recognition throughout the Caribbean, North America, and Europe.

Mya ft Spice – Take Him Out – PRESS PLAY

It’s a New Year and dancehall sensation, Spice is on a brand new page as she releases three fresh tracks to jump start 2012. An international collaboration tops the list as Spice adds a dancehall reggae flavor to the track Take Him Out.

Take Him Out, is a featured single on Grammy winning recording artiste, M`ya’s new album, KISS. The R&B sweetheart is as equally excited about the song as her guest performer, Spice. The anticipated club banger tells the tale of a relationship falling apart, a story females can definitely relate to say’s Spice. The music video is currently in post production and will be launched in both Jamaica and the United States next month. The American singer has always been a fan and supporter of reggae music evidenced in the Billboard hit, Girls Dem Sugarwith Beenie Man.

Spice has started off the year on a high, with nominations from the Jamaica Star and Youth View Awards, a total of five nods. She dominated last year with her mega hit, Jim Screechie that scorched the airwaves for weeks on end. The summer song, Fun that features, music hit maker, Missy Elliot was also in high rotation. Spice is now on to a Brand New Page as the title of her new, one drop release suggests. The deeply conscious and soul searching ballad shows her versatility; a far cry from Ramping Shop. Ramping Shop was a monster hit, this single made its way on to the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Charts.

Catering to a broad cross section of fans, she is prepared to deliver for all tiers. Her third release, Gyal a Chat is expected to be an overnight sensation on the hardcore dancehall scene. This track is clean yet exciting, full of life and colorful, reminiscent of the early nineties where fun poking songs rocked the out door sessions on the pepper-seed among other rhythms.

Bob Marley’s family loses lawsuit against UMG

NEW YORK, United States – Bob Marley’s family lost a lawsuit seeking the copyrights to several of the late Jamaican reggae singer’s best-known recordings.

A US District Judge in Manhattan said the UMG Recordings unit of the Universal Music Group is the rightful owner of copyrights to five albums that Marley had recorded between 1973 and 1977 for Island Records

The albums “Catch a Fire,” “Burnin’,” “Natty Dread,” “Rastaman Vibrations” and “Exodus” were recorded with Marley’s band The Wailers. They include some of Marley’s best-known songs, including “Get Up, Stand Up,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” “No Woman, No Cry” and “One Love.”

The ruling is a defeat for Marley’s widow Rita and nine children who had sought to recover millions of dollars in damages over UMG’s effort to “exploit” what they called “the quintessential Bob Marley sound recordings.”

Marley’s family accused the company of holding back royalties from their company Fifty-Six Hope Road Music Ltd, and ignoring a 1995 agreement assigning them rights under the original recording agreements, court papers show.

It also accused UMG of failing as required to consult with them on key licensing decisions, including the use of Marley’s music as ringtones.

But the judge ruled that Marley’s recordings were “works made for hire” as defined under US copyright law, entitling UMG to be the owner of the albums.
