Aidonia 2014

Aidonia ditches war music, claims spiritual rebirth

Aidonia 2014Dancehall star, Aidonia says he will no longer make records preaching war or violence after insisting he has become a more spiritual person due to his growing commitment to the Rastafari movement and aims to make many more conscious songs going forward.

Having previously proclaimed himself Lord Evil, the hardcore deejay, known for several hit songs containing gun and war-related lyrical content, says he has slowly undergone a spiritual rebirth since the birth of his son in January of last year and will be making more songs to positively influence young people and reflect upon the happenings within society.

“At this stage in my life, I am trying to teach the youths that we don’t need anybody else to venture down that warpath because there is nothing good at the end,” Aidonia said in a statement released Thursday. “Right now, we dealing with love and unity. It’s about making music to feed yourself, feed your family and your friends, uplift yourself and everybody. I have no time to war with anybody.”

In addition to his adjustments musically, he has been making small changes to his lifestyle, including cutting meat out of his diet and donning Rastafari clothing, including his getup at Reggae Sumfest 2014 when he sported a military uniform with Rastafarian symbols.

This past June, Aidonia has released the conscious effort, One Heart, produced by his Jag One Production (J.O.P) label and will be shooting videos for singles such as Coco Powda and Love Off Yuh Gyal in the near future. Additionally, he plans to drop a clothing line later this summer dubbed 1Voice, including apparel for men, women and children.

I-Octane Reggae Sumfest

I-Octane set to close Reggae Sumfest for second consecutive year

I-Octane Reggae SumfestAfter a war of words and nominations being put in as to who should close Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest, organizers of the show have taken the safe bet, opting for I-Octane to close the show for the second straight year.

Summerfest Productions CEO, Johnny Gourzong announced that I-Octane would finish Dancehall Night set to take place on July 17, saying at Reggae Sumfest’s official launch in Kingston this past weekend, “I-Octane is closing Dancehall Night! No ifs, buts or maybes!”

I-Octane has since accepted the news, saying he will bring his best to the show in an effort to better his closing set from last year.

This news comes after weeks of back and forth between himself and fellow singjay, Mr. Vegas after Octane challenged Vegas to close the show following disparaging comments Vegas made about him closing the show as well as his campaign to get said closing spot. Vegas responded by saying Octane should close to go given he thinks of himself as the new king of Dancehall, saying he would consider closing the show himself if asked.

Veteran deejay, Kiprich, who has previously closed STING, also threw his hat in the ring to close the show, as long as the pay was good enough.

Reggae Sumfest will take place from July 13-19 in Montego Bay.
