Wayne Marshall and Tami Chynn expecting first child together

tami-chynn-wayne-marshallOne of Dancehall’s power couples will be welcoming a little bundle of joy later in the near future as Tami Chynn and Wayne Marshall are expecting their first child together later this year.

Chynn made the announcement via her official Facebook page late Wednesday night shortly after Marshall teased fans on his Twitter page by saying “Nobody don’t sleep. Big announcement coming up….or a better me wait till tomorrow…??”

Chynn’s status update read, “@Wayne_Marshall & I are so happy to announce that we will be welcoming our first child later this year. We are over the moon & giving thanx. Thanx to you all for your continued love and support as we enter this very special time in our lives!!!”

Within minutes, her status was liked thousands of times with many of her 156,000+ fans on the social media site, offering congratulatory comments. Some even wondered why it took them so long to have a child, with one comment stating, FINALLY! *pops champagne*

Marshall followed up soon thereafter with his own status update.

“Tami Chynn and i are happy to announce that we will be welcoming our first child into the world later this year. Exciting times ahead. Thank you all for your continued love and support as we enter this very special time in our lives,” he said.

After years of dating, Tami Chynn married Wayne Marshall in 2009 during a private ceremony at the Mona Visitors’ Lounge in Kingston. The duo have appeared in several songs together, including Arguing, Why and most recently, Good Ole Wife on Marshall’s highly-acclaimed Matrimoney Riddim (2011).

Mavado Real McKoy Birthnite Bash Pictures & Review

After days of wrangling with the police, who eventually prevented it from happening at the larger outdoor location at Temple Hall in the hills of St. Andrew, dancehall singjay Mavado’s Real McKoy birthnite bash took place without incident last night at the The Building (formerly known as the Asylum Night Club) in New Kingston. Below we’ve featured some pictures and a short review courtesy of Mis Pamela aka ‘Dora the Explora’.

The Gully Gaad…MAVADO

Wayne Marshall

Busy Signal & Bounty Killer

Mini-review courtesy of Mis Pamela aka ‘Dora the Explora’ – The Gully Gad was out with a full Alliance crew plus some special guests at The Building (formerly Asylum) last night. Selector Jigzy got the party going and then Boom Boom from the Gully Squad took over as new young artists popped up on stage one after the other. Iyara, Einstein and Flexx in the Complex! and then Chase cross from the Gully!!

As the Gully Gad himself waited patiently on the sidelines, he motioned to get the ‘gully gals’ some time on the mike … Up came newcomer Miss Joey Brooks, who’s sweet voice put a hush on the crowd.

But before the girls had a chance to walk up the stairs, across from the other side of the stage came Assassin …. then Baby Tash and Stacious and then with a roar, up came Spice!

Mavado came back out front and jumped into his list of hits, but struggled to stay up on the stage as the front line of women kept pulling at him his clothes and dragging him down! A brief visit from Sizzla got the crowd even more hype, and then up came Busy Signal and then The Poor People’s Governor … the crowd went nuts!!.

Then, with screams from the crowd up came Wayne Marshall … then Bling Dawg and again Bounty Killer.

The stage could barely hold the line up of incredible talent…and as fully loaded alliance team blasted out the best rendition of “Keepin It Gangsta” … I smiled and was glad I was at the right place at the right time.

Wayne Marshall; ‘Payola mashing up the business,’

marshallwDancehall artiste Wayne Marshall has voiced the opinion that payola (pay for play) spans 80 per cent of the industry and silences talented artistes whilst supporting Chris Blackwell’s view that Jamaica’s golden era of music is finished.

“Payola is very prevalent part of the business now,” said Marshall who is in the Alliance group of artistes headed by Bounty Killer. “Money is all over the place on the charts, the radio stations … payola is all over and that contributes to the stagnant nature of the business.”

Payola had the effect of supporting the claim of Blackwell, who founded Island Records and was responsible for marketing reggae icon Bob Marley to the world.

“A foolish record will get played and pushed if a man has money behind it. So that is the record you will hear everyday, so Chris Blackwell will be thinking, What the hell (happened) to this music, man? The golden age is gone because the new number one record would be off-key in certain parts, the content has nothing significant,” he said.

Interestingly, 54 of the Top 100 Jamaican songs from 1962 are songs made in the 70s. The list was released in April by a panel of musicians and cultural officials led by the University of the West Indies.
The reggae-centric chart was dismissed by some, as it contained less than five dancehall songs. Others charged it reflected the declining quality of music.

Payola has long existed in the industry, but there isn’t any way to test the prevalence of this clandestine activity. Marhsall estimated that “80 per cent of the industry” operates on it. His evidence is the “stagnant” quality of popular music along with his insider knowledge. He said that songs may get airplay without pay in sections of the media but not others.

“A great song can get pushed by 60 per cent of the media without any money. Then the other 40 per cent is thinking…that the reason that it was played was due to money,” he said at the ongoing 34th Annual Conference of the Caribbean Studies Association in Jamaica. “Payola is so prevalent, they are thinking that (others) are getting paid to play it and say, ‘me nah go play it unless me get money’, and then a good record suffers.”

Marshall added that the industry is about money, “it’s not about talent again”.

He said that good artistes get pushed to the bottom of charts and excluded from prime time radio. “You have a lot of artistes out there that buss dem brain with good content, songs, melodies but never get the light of day because they don’t have the juice to even burn 5,000 CDs to put out.”

He added: “But if you do the research you find that this man has a big drugs man behind his career and him pay people and get plenty favours. If you aren’t talented it wont last but then if the money can last then (he will).”

His caveat was that artistes must support media in various ways outside of payola in order to influence play. Instead of pay for play utilise other models.

“I am not saying artistes should not support media. Because TV and radio play an important role in getting us out there. So if I feel like for all the work the media have done for me, I will give you a Christmas show or a gift, okay.”

Wayne Marshall Inks Deal With The Marley clan

By Basil Walters

marshall

MARSHAL... we've been working with the Marleys for like over a year and a half, and we just recently, very recently, inked a deal for the first album

Artiste Wayne Marshall, now in an alliance of sorts with the Marley clan, is poised to take his music to the next level. This perspective is born out of the recently signed album deal with the Marley’s Ghetto Youth outfit, with which he has been working for over a year and half.

We’ve been working with the Marleys for like over a year and a half, and we just recently, very recently, inked a deal for the first album which is still in the early stages,” the dancehall deejay with the signature sound “tru tru tru” revealed.

A household name in dancehall since the mid-90s, Marshall promised that by next year the album, which will be produced by Damian and Steven Marley on their Ghetto Youths’ imprint, will be ready.

“So I’m really looking forward to that which is really going to take my music to the next level with the expertise of Steve and Damian (Marley) at the controls,” he told the Observer.

The Jamaican artiste, born Wayne Mitchell, who shares stage name with the distinguished classical musican Wayne Marshall (British born pianist, organist, conductor), recently dropped his latest album called Good Love. Produced by Yaad Vibes Entertainment, Good Love is all about bringing back that authentic lovers rock groove.

Of the video for the lead single, he says, “I’ve made a conscious effort to try and bring a concept that has never been presented on a video format. It’s a one-drop song, it’s a lovers rock vibes. The song is Good Love, produced by Yaad Vibes Entertainment. And the concept is about me in a relationship and keeping the relationship alive by doing creative stuff,” Wayne Marshall explained.

“It’s kind of my way of expressing what I would do if I’m involved in a long term relationship and what other people out there can experiment with. It’s just a nice sexy vibes,” he added.

Asked to give his take on the Broadcasting Commission’s restrictions on certain types of dancehall music, Marshall who was a panelist discussing the issue at the Caribbean Studies Association conference, gave a measured response.

“My view on the bans and the restrictions is very intricate . because some stuff I agree with, some stuff I don’t. But generally, the restrictions and the new standard that has been set, I think is a very definite positive for the music,” he said, while stating that it can also stifle creativity.

“Because there must be some sort of creative expression where we can toe the line of what is to be edited and what can pass to play. Like a creative play on words. The way how you say something or add humour to it.”

He also called for a direct line of communication between the Broadcasting Commission and the artistes whereby a song can be sent to the commission for approval.
