Dancehall/Reggae superstar, Mr. Vegas says his upcoming set, This Is Dancehall will be his final release in the dancehall genre and will only release singles going forward.
Set to be unveiled September 23, This is Dancehall is Vegas eighth set, but will be Mr. Vegas’ final album in the genre; citing lack of general album sales and growing production costs at the reasoning behind his decision.
His last album, Reggae Euphoria sold just 100 copies online while his hit album, Sweet Jamaica ended up costing him a lot from a production stand point. All his profits from his smash hit single, Bruck It Down were reinvested into said production due to the high cost.
Three singles from This is Dancehall have already been release: Dancehall Dabb, for which the official video has drawn over 700,000 views on VEVO and Identify My Love and the throwback-themed autobiographical single, Own Leader in which he addresses the backlash he has received for comments on the cultural appropriation of dancehall music.
Though this is his final dancehall album, Mr. Vegas has hinted at doing gospel album in the future.
