Youth View is now Your View and dancehall star, Popcaan, was the benefit of your views on Saturday. The former protégé of Vybz Kartel walked away as one of the biggest winners of the newly-named Your View Awards (previously the Youth View Awards on Saturday at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston.
The Unruly One won four awards, the joint-most on the night. These include Favourite Caribbean Artiste of the Year, Favourite Local International Artiste of the Year, Favourite Male Local Artiste of the Year and Favourite Music Collaboration (alongside Dre Island) for We Pray. Popcaan did not attend Saturday’s ceremony.
Famed dance crew, Ravers Clavers, also won four times at the YVAs. Ding Dong took home Favourite Male Dancer of the Year, Ravers Clavers won Favourite Dance Group, Desha Ravers won Favourite Female Dancer of the Year and Kool Ravers won Favourite Dance Move for Fling Yuh Shoulda.
Grammy-nominated megastar, Chronixx, and dancehall superstar, Spice, each took home two awards on the night. Chronixx took home Favourite Local Chart-Topping Song of the Year (Likes) and Favourite Local Album of The Year for his Grammy-nominated debut album, Chronology. Spice, currently on a tour of the Caribbean won Favourite Female Local Artiste of The Year (Female) and Favourite Local Music Video Concept: Xtreme Arts for Sheet.
Despite having the most nominations coming in (seven), dancehall star, Alkaline, only walked away with one award, Favourite Dancehall Artiste of the Year. Aidonia’s Yeah Yeah won Hottest Summer Song while Sly & Robbie won the Lifetime Achievement Award and Quite Perry took home Social Media Personality of the Year.
