Embattled dancehall star, Vybz Kartel, long-time protégé, Shawn Storm, and two other co-accused who were convicted in the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams were granted leave on Wednesday to appeal said conviction, beginning what could be a very lengthy process.
Their cases will be heard in the Court of Appeal as they aim to overturn their respective life sentences in the murder case, which were handed down following their March 2014 convictions.
Tom Tavares-Finson, one of Kartel’s lawyers, says he hopes the appeal will be heard later this year, but marked the decision as a step in the right direction.
Skeletal arguments are expected to be heard in early June, while the defendants’ lawyers will have until July to file their authority.
Kartel is being housed at the Tower Street Correctional Facility.
