Omi reaches top of Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Cheerleader’ remix

OmiJamaican singer, Omar Samuel Pasley, more popularly known as OMI has made history on behalf of his native country as the remix of his hit single, Cheerleader has topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Having steadily climbed the chart since the end of the spring, the Cheerleader remix, crafted by German producing prodigy, Felix Jaehn has topped charts in Australia, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom and most recently, Canada. Now, it has reached the top of Billboard, making OMI the first Jamaican to top the U.S. chart since Sean Paul’s Temperature in 2006.

The singer was ecstatic upon hearing the news, posting this message on his Instagram page.

The success of this remix comes three years after the original version of Cheerleader was released.

Capitalizing on his new found fame, OMI has been making the rounds on the U.S. talk show circuit, performing Cheerleader on Good Morning America and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and recently did an interview with Billboard in which he revealed that the song initially was supposed to be an album interlude.
